This what I don't get..... (1) Exacta Part-Wheel bet, either a Front Wheel (1 x 3) or Back Wheel (3 x 1)

Exacta Wheels....

Regarding the Exacta wheels in this contest - I am going to let JOH™ or BetallSports make a post to explain how they work for anyone who needs some direction in that area.

This will be a real fun contest for anyone who enjoys capping horse racing, especially at the jewel of horse racing in the US "The Annual Saratoga Meet"..

Best of luck to all, wil...

Ok, a Three Horse Part-Wheel is when you use say the # 3 horse on Top ( 1st Place )
and the #1, 2 & 4 on the bottom ( 2nd place ) ** of course you can use Any Numbered Horse.
The above is a Front Wheel........

a Back End part Wheel would be using the same horses Above. #1,2 & 4 with the #3 horse.
Meaning either the 1,2 or 4 need to Win the race, and the #3 Needs to finished 2nd

Here's More Info..............

Exactas can also be played as part-wheels, which differs from a full wheel in that you do not use ALL the horses in one part of the wheel. For example, in an eight-horse field, you might play a $1 exacta part-wheel 3 with 2, 4, 5 (three possible winning combinations of 3-2, 3-4, 3-5) at a cost of $3. Or you might play the part-wheel the other way, 2, 4, 5 with 3 (also three possible winning combinations of 2-3, 4-3, 5-3) at a cost of $3. While exacta wheels and part-wheels are not quite as inefficient as boxes, they still leave room for improvement, which brings us to our preferred exacta betting strategy.

To expand on Betall's explanation, note that you must first pick the winner of the race so that pick should enter into your thinking when choosing your exactas. You seemingly would want to use that horse as the 1st Leg in a Front-Wheel and at least one of the 3 horses in the 1st Leg of the Back-Wheel. It's your choice whether you want to play Front or Back.

One thing that doesn't make too much sense is making your selections before the entries even come out. LOL

Also, make sure to fill out the signup form before making your picks...hint, hint.

How do you guys know what race we are betting on? As we only have to bet 30 of the 52. I put my first picks in for the race on Friday.

I'd ask the mods to reconsider the "scratch = loss" rule. That seems a bit unfair. I can understand why it's done (easier to grade), just saying.

And I assume we HAVE to wheel a horse with 3 others then? No $6 exactas or $3 wheels with say 2 horses on the back end?

Just want to make sure, this sounds like a really fun contest. My local track just closed down for the year last Sunday and I'm already itching to go back even though I lost my ass every week.

Anybody know if these can be found online for free anywhere?

I realize the scratch rule is unfair but the way it's set up, $8 worth of bets need to be wagered on every race. If I refund a scratch and the poster isn't around to substitute another horse, then that's unfair too. Everyone gets treated the same this way. If possible, wait until just before post time to make your selections.

The wheels are 1 with 3 or 3 with 1. That's it.

Yes JOH I saw that but with only 30 races to pick how do you know I wanted Fridays race and not Saturdays with my picks I placed today? If I did not post for Friday....

I should add that there will be no advanced wagering, that is to say, until Friday's race goes off, no selections can be made on Saturday's race or any future race. On a daily basis, if I'm around, I will try to insert a line to the spreadsheet after the race has been run stating Friday Closed - Saturday Now Open... etc. All plays posted after that will apply to the next day.

A couple minor rules amendments...

Everyone will start out with $2400 and each bet will be $20 so to eliminate the decimals when grading.

Also, if at any point a contestant will fall short of the minimum 30 race selections, an automatic $80 will be deducted from his balance for every day he misses. No disqualifications. Entries close on Aug 3rd.
