Bears' pre-season game canceled due to lockout
Jul. 22, 2011 | Tony Arnold
A Chicago Bears pre-season game has been canceled because of the NFL lockout. The Bears were scheduled to play the Saint Louis Rams Aug. 7 in what was being called the Hall of Fame game. It was to be played in the same town of the football hall of fame, in Canton, Ohio. The NFL commissioner said the teams wouldn't have enough time to prepare since the lockout is still going on.

WBEZ sports contributor Cheryl Raye Stout said the game would have been a nice statement that the owners and players had buried the hatchet.

"With the NFL, it was the prime game that they would have," she said. "Even though it was a pre-season game, but it kind of like culminates the whole week of the Hall of Fame. It would've been the first positive thing since this whole lockout happened."

Stout says many of the Bears' players have been keeping in shape so they can be ready to play once the lockout ends. Meanwhile, the NFL will continue with its Hall of Fame ceremony, in which former Chicago Bear Richard Dent will be inducted.
