I don't know what the record is for games with chalk this high. Anyone know?
Still, what could be worse for a team on a 13 game losing streak than facing Beckett, and the Sox in Fenway Park. With a rookie pitcher on the mound. Beavan has pitched okay so far for the Mariners, but he pitches to contact- only 8 Ks in 20 innings, with 4 walks. In AAA he didn't show himself to be much of a prospect, but was called up when Bedard got injured. And Seattle had no one else even close being a major league starter in their upper minors. Beavan throws a lot of low 90s fastballs which depends a lot on command. Breaking pitches are average. No out pitch. Beckett is fairly good in his career vs. Seattle, not dominating. And the Mariners are hitting on this road trip (unfortunately their good pitching went south).
That being said, this Mariner team is so loaded with weak bats, with very little power, that I just can't see them winning this game.
Thoughts?
