Just started to look at tomorrow's card and there are many games I can see as a possible upset

Mariners
Angels
Rays
Tigers
Blue Jays
Brewers
Reds
Astros
Pirates

Anyone else think it could be a big dog day or really liking a dog tomorrow?

I like the Pirates tomorrow. They had good numbers against Lohse when they sucked, and Morton has pitched pretty well against the Cards in the past.

Call me crazy but I think SD had a decent shot tomorrow. Their bats have been hot and Stauffer is dirty. If they can keep it tied or within a run through 6 anything can happen. Their pen is usually good.

Yeah, apparently Halladay can't handle the heat.

I was at that game.......I will give Halladay credit it was BLAZING inside wrigley that night and the heat really does get trapped inside that stadium and is like a pit inside but once the game over and you leave its like literally 10-20 degrees cooler on the outside from the heat not being so trapped.

It was scorching and i actually stripped down to just shorts and a beater that night to tolerate the heat along with the beer.lol

I am in Chicago as well and agree the heat was really bad that day. I've been rocking the shorts, beater and Bud Light all week...been feeling kind of like the white trash poster boy, but whatever it takes to survive this heat wave. I know how it gets inside Wrigley too...thought I was going to die sitting out in the bleachers at a day game last summer.

There are probably better dogs to back today. The question mark is if the heat is comparable, Halladay could have problems just like he did in Chicago. Granted, San Diego's lineup isn't exactly stellar though.

I'm up and have no big plays or "double the bank" plays, so I'm going to fuck around with a bunch of small plays.

I'm more of a fav bettor but, like I said, I have a feeling about the dogs will be barking today. Here's what I took:

Pirates +107 [2U] I like this one the best. Better pitcher on the mound IMO
Blue Jays +185 [1U] Scariest offense for such a bad/mediocre team. Worth giving a shot as a big dog in most cases
Brewers +102 [1U] Better pitcher on the mound. Better offense.
Reds +113 [1U] Willis scares me but not sold on Beachy. Reds maybe better offense. Taking a shot
Astros +160 [1U] Lyles is going to be good. Biggest factor, they are playing the Cubs. No justification in putting that much juice on a bad team.
Mariners +140 [1U] Pineda is a solid pitcher. Wakefield - who knows? Could be great, could give up 8 runs. Streak stops sometime, today?
Angels +108 [1U] Maybe the better pitcher. Guthrie is hard to back. O's stink.
Padres +225 [1U] Like this one the very least. But, since I'm on the dogs today, if I didn't take it & SD upset, then I would be kicking myself. So, what the hell
Rays -107 [1U] Pitching matchup maybe edge to TB. Rays offense stinks. Can the Royals sweep? I'll put one measly unit down to say they won't

good luck hookem. the dogs have been getting killed on sundays, every sunday i think a bunch of dogs look good, then afterwards i have to wonder if linesmakers are just trying to make the dogs look like good bets. like the cubs -175 today... the cubs are -175? to me it might be linesmakers saying please take houston +165, look at how juicy that looks

You're exactly right...usually if a bad team is heavily favored then it's a red flag; obviously, Vegas knows what they're doing. Also, I thought about exactly what you said regarding linesmakers trying to reel in Joe Public with enticing lines...kind of worries me as when something looks too good to be true, it usually is. That's why I'm going small on these. However, I can hit less than half of these and still come out ahead. I never have this many plays in one day, especially with so many dogs...just kind of having fun with it today as I don't have anything completely solid. My degenerate side won't allow me to take the day off lol

Please keep in mind that although I'm just having fun with it today, I do see advantages in these games that persuade me to take the dog. In other words, I'm not just not just pissing in the wind. My objective is to make a little money. Worst case scenario, I'm not going to lose that much as I didn't put a whole lot down

You included the Tigers initially ... not so much anymore? Liriano can throw a no-no or be out of the game by the third inning and he tends to walk a lot of batters. Porcello, has won his last 3 starts and has pitched decently vs. the Twins.

You're right...I missed that one. Thanks for pointing that out

Tigers +113 [1U] Liriano has already been roughed up by the Tigers once this year. He is very inconsistent. Porcello has looked good lately. Tigers with the better offense. Worth putting a little on IMO

Tigers +113 [1U] Liriano has already been roughed up by the Tigers once this year. He is very inconsistent and throws way too many pitches - this could be bad in such high temperatures. Porcello has looked good lately. Tigers with the better offense. Worth putting a little on IMO
I'll make myself scarce if your one unit is like for 1K.

Nooooooo way! More like one quarter. Just trying to show these are small plays

I would never play this many games for such a large amount. Big plays are a different story :toast:

Mild objections to 2 plays
Boston 15-2 on Sunday
Minn long streak broken and 7-1 in game 4
very interested in Arizona and Pitt BOL

I can see that...Boston is the far superior team. Detroit has Minn's number though. The main thing about both of these games is Wakefield and Liriano are both pitchers I can't completely trust today. I love watching knuckleballers go to work...if they are on then they can't be touched. If they are off, then let the fireworks begin. Should be a couple of fun games

I can't see any correlation in these Sunday trends to what these teams will do in the future. Or that Minnesota going 7-1 in game fours. These are just statistical imbalances that tend to head back toward .500 over time. In fact this whole obsession with trends seems a distraction.

Yeah, I find trends interesting, but I do not factor trends into my capping of a game unless it deals with recent statistical trends.

As a hypothetical: If the Twins haven't scored more than 2 runs in 9 out of their last 10 games, I would take that into consideration because it indicates current problems on offense. Maybe due to injuries, bats are primarily cold, etc. They could have been playing at pitcher-friendly ballparks. Something to look at.

Otherwise, in my opinion, many trends can be based on coincidence.
