One unit on the Angels (1H) .
Haren will recover from his Texas outing. Remember Texas is possibly the best hitting team in the AL. Haren is also capable of shutting out Detroit, and beating Verlander. Last year, Haren had a very strong 2nd half. Besides, the Indians are in a slump. 16 runs in last 6 games against poor pitching for the most part. The best lefthanders, Hafner and A. Cabrera, are hitting .211 and .071 vs. Haren. And Carmona has been consistently awful for 2 years now. Poor control, lack of in-game adjustment, lack of strikeouts, 16 HRs in 110 innings, need I go on..... The Angels tend to struggle against top of the line pitchers, and have seen quite a few in the past 2-3 weeks (excluding Oriole pitchers). Against poor pitchers like Carmona they hit much better. I like the first half bet because Angels bullpen could blow it late. The ML isn't too bad.
One unit on the Atlanta/ Pittsburgh game (under 7)
Neither team is hitting. Both of these pitchers are in a groove, especially Hudson. Both teams have solid bullpens. Some injuries in the Atlanta lineup. Pirates have seen some fairly weak pitching lately, and still not producing runs. Hudson could hold them to 0 or 1 runs. Mcdonald has a string of quality starts, and probably has the best stuff on the Pirate staff (although hasn't always shown it).
One unit on the Red Sox (RL)
Lots of chalky games to choose from. Like this one best because Davies is possibly worse than Carmona. He has a road ERA of 9.35, and Fenway is not nice to pitchers like this. Look what the Sox did to Felix and Pineda. Royals have too many guys that can't get the clutch hit. Too much youth. Lester, without a rehab start, seems ready to go by reports from Boston. Lester is ultra competitive and will want to show the home crowd he is fine.He will only go about 80 pitches, but the Red Sox middle relief is good enough to hold this game. With the way the bottom of the Sox order is hitting now, this seems like such a mismatch.
