ANY SUGGESTIONS would be greatly welcome. With what happened to BetJam / Greek today, I have officially given up on the offhsore world. No more for me. It's not just that I TOTALLY felt comfortable with BetJam, and loved their deposit options and payout speed and reliability. I understand there are other books, and maybe some that are just as reliable and safe.

But let's be honest here....BetJam and TheGreek does not leave the U.S. market because they are losing money. They don't leave on a whim. They are run by some EXTREMELY knowledgeable and EXTREMELY connected individuals. There are reasons behind it, and those very same reasons will cause other books to follow.

I just don't want my money tied into other books, because there's no guarantee that the money will be sent back to me, or deposited in another book, once my book goes down (which it eventually will). What happened today is a red flag slapping me in the face, screaming, "GET OUT"

Began wagering with the locals back in the early 80s, and did so for nearly two decades before they went out of business (for one reason or another) and the offshore industry surfaced. I thought I was in heaven when I first heard two guys from betmaker advertise their site on a local talk show. Thought it would last forever, and that it would only get better. It did for awhile, but now the bottom is beginning to fall out.

So, it's been nearly 15 years since I had a local. Wouldn't even know where to turn to...Not a bar-hopper like I used to be, and while I am well-connected with the sports world (both local and beyond), I really don't closely associate with anyone who gambles the way I do.

Suggestions are more than welcome.

I agree with what you have said. You might have to buy a few drinks - talk a little football - look for bars with "last man standing contests" - maybe ask around at a bar for a Fantasy League to get a lead.

If you do play offshore - find a smaller book - nothing big - all the big boys have bullseyes on their chests. You don't want a little brother or sister of a big boy either.

My (limited) experience is that bartenders will tell you where to look, but you'll need enough time to gauge the quality of service (ie - shitty bartender will point you towards a shitty local). I know you mentioned that you don't frequent bars much, but honestly i'm not sure where else you'd turn - craigslist maybe (but highly doubtful)? A high-stakes fantasy sports leagues may also provide you with information.

Play golf. Go to the country club. You will find better locals this way.
Most of the locals make there weekly payouts at the golf clubs.
Almost every golfer that is a member of a country club has 3 things in common.
1) They make at least 100K per year
2) They are good people in general as far as being honest
3) They love sports, and love to bet

I think thats what I enjoy the most about playing golf and being a member of a club.
Its the people I play with more then the game itself.

Name a better place then that to find a local?

Certainly not a sportsbar.

But one thing is for sure. there are just as many bad locals as bad offshore books.
I ran off both my locals. The juice they charged was sinful.
This was a long time ago though.

Lol. Great minds think alike.......who plays golf and doesn't gamble? That must be really boring 4 hours. I can tell you around here, all those kids that work at the golf course, they all know who and when the bookie is coming because he gives big tips

I just dont understand why anyone wouldnt have at least 2 locals while having online books as well. So many advantages in have locals, like their outrages lines favoring the dog.............:)

Imo, if you are looking for one, I would recommend hanging out at some local bars. Make sure they are not franchise ones like , Hooters, Damons & what not. Just your ordinary local bars.

I dont know where you live, but local bars around my area always has some type of football betting, whether its parlay cards or them knowing a bookie. Also, you are right, a country club golf course is a great place as well.
