Today Bodog Brand announced that they will allow their current license agreement with Morris Mohawk Gaming to expire at the end of 2011, thus the Bodog Brand will leave the US online gaming market.
The news comes on the heels of Bodog UK being granted a gambling licence by the UK gambling commission.
Bodog Brand has released the following statement about their decision to let their brand licensing deal with Morris Mohawk Gaming expire at the end of the year.
“Following recent news that Bodog UK has been granted a gambling license by the UK Gambling Commission, we are pleased to announce further developments to the Bodog brand going forward.
As highlighted last week, Bodog UK’s CEO, Patrik Selin believes the trust and credibility that having a UK license brings to the brand will benefit customers and allow him to attract the best talent in the industry to work with him.
However, in order to ensure the brand’s expansion is not affected by negative perceptions, both in the UK and elsewhere in emerging markets such as Asia, where Bodog88 is already successful, a decision has been made to withdraw the Bodog brand from the US market at the end of 2011. As a result, the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group’s (MMGG) brand licensing agreement will be allowed to expire on 31 December, following which US residents will no longer be able to access bodog.eu or any other Bodog branded website. We understand that MMGG will launch under its own brand in 2012, licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. All Bodog.eu clients’ funds will remain safe and they will have the option to switch to a new MMGG brand should they wish but MMGG confirms it’s business as usual.
This decision presents a fresh direction for the Bodogbrand.com as it looks to create a new chapter in its history. The move will enable the Bodog brand to continue its growth and expansion and maintain its position as the world’s largest gaming brand.”
The Bodog Brand exploded in popularity over the past decade to take its spot as the premier online gaming brand servicing the US market before venturing out to the rest of the world. Bodog became synonymous with online gambling in the US, attracting celebrities and punters alike who wanted to be part of the Bodog Lifestyle.
It will mean the end of the Bodog era in the US but Morris Mohawk Gaming has been operating the brand in the US Market for the past 5 years so other than a name change it should be business as usual for US punters

Yep.

I think their will be some offshore alternatives down the line because there's a lot of $ out here waiting to be spent, but it's just a matter of when and how reliable they will be since they will more than likely have no standing industry reputation.

Unless I am misreading this, your betting account will still be available to U.S. gamblers but they'll just have a different license. It's not the same cockslap like Spiro did. Unless, of course, the next licensing company is less than desirable.

It's time for people to stop acting like nothing is happening... Not business as usual, and at this point can't imagine posting up offshore.

The panic some continue to have simply because 1 sportsbook owner (the greeek) decides to close his secondary book (betjam) and send his U.S. players to another reputable book (Heritage) for his own personal reasons, NOT BECAUSE HE/THEY WERE FORCED OUT, is ridiculous...

Hache, he was forced in a sense.

With the current climate, he decided to pull out. Had it not been for the US crack dow, GREEK would still be around today

Spiro lost his drive and will to be a hero to the American population, not because Uncle Sam took him out. His wallets are fat and doesn't want the heartache anymore.

There will always be a way to bet online, always. Even when the major operations will chicken out, there will be new up and comers ready to take the action.

Liked Bodog for getting the best dog lines in basketball and football. Another one leaving the US, this sucks. We have all of this money to gamble with but fewer places to deposit.

Oh yea, it has only been one sportsbook thats all.

With that in mind I think I will go reload my Pinny, Matchbook,WWTS, WSEX, MANSION, SPORTSBOOK, and Betfair accounts. Might as well also load up my fulltilt and pokerstars accounts to. Good thing I have Neteller to fund all this with.

Oh wait!

Thats all been shut down!

Only 1 book recently and the point is this was a total different story and reason, different from the others.

If you tinker around on U.S. soil in one way or another as most of the books you mentioned did, you are going to back yourself into a corner eventually.

The other books who have been around a long time, and are still accepting ONLY the standard deposit & withdrawal methods that we have to abide with right now, and very wise and will continue to operate and be available to U.S. players...

I think a lot of the newer players and or posters do not realize or maybe forget how long Spiro's "Olympic-Greek" has been around.
Online at least 15 or 16 years and he was already a main figure offshore before launching online in 95/96 when the Net started to boom.

Thank you for contacting Bodog Customer Service.

In regards to your inquiry, please note that we do understand your concern regarding this upcoming change to the Bodog brand. This change is a mutual decision made between the Bodog brand and Morris Mohawk Gaming Group. The Bodog brand has decided to focus its growth in other regions outside of the US. T he Morris Mohawk Gaming Group has a vast amount of experience in the US market and wanted to continue to offer its customers the same trusted service, all be it under a new brand.

Please allow us to assure you that the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group will still continue to own and operate the business in the same way it does now and has done for the previous 5 years, just under a new brand. All player accounts and balances will automatically be transferred across to the new brand once the association with the Bodog brand ends and the business will continue to be run in the same way that has already earned your trust. The new website will be fully licensed to operate its business by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.

Also, kindly be advised that the transition to the new brand will be an open and transparent one and all customers will be notified as soon as the new brand is ready for launch.

Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
