It's that time of the year for posters to share what kind of deals they are getting from Directv customer service on the renewal of NFL Sunday Ticket. I am waiting until I get my next bill that reflects the first payment installment before calling them and asking to cancel my subscription.

Last year I ended up getting Sunday Ticket for free but last year I wasn't in a contract with Directv so they were real generous. This year might be a different story because i moved and they hooked me up with some free additional receivers and upgrades. Of course I had to agree to a two year contract so the threat of switching cable services is not a card I will be able to play.

I havent had a contract with them since after my first 2 year agreement was over. I always try and get Sunday ticket for free or real cheap by offering to re-sign a contract and they just dont care

I called this week to see what kind of deals they were offering and she told me to call back in August

timely thread, i will be calling them today to get pricing to switch from cable.
are you better off calling them directly or using a local guy who offers it? do you get a better deal calling them directly? I called a few months ago and the guy on the phone was real pushy to get me to sign up. kind of turned me off.

I called in & asked the other day if there were any discounts & she said they were taking off $3 off each month of the installments. Big deal, Im gonna call back again in mid August & see if I can get a better deal. Ive had NFL ticket since 1997, if they are giving new customer fee NFL, then they should be giving loyal customers something worth while.

I always hated that with the cable and internet providers. They offer new customers the sweetest package deals and introductory pricing but then make it's loyal existing customers pay top dollar.

If you are a current Directv customer and had NFL Sunday Ticket last year, try this....

Call them directly and tell them you want to cancel your Sunday Ticket and you dont want it this year. They will ask you why. Tell them you are a season ticket holder for your closest NFL team and miss half the games anyway, so its not worth it.

I have done this the past 2 years. Both times they then offered 1/2 off to renew.

Havent tried it yet this year though...

I just noticed that they charged my account for the auto-renewal today (6 payments of $53.99, for a total of $324). I called to (try to get the best deal possible) cancel three times, finally getting an OK deal on the third call. First call I was offered $5 off a month for 6 months and the CSR was pretty firm about not giving me anything else. The second CSR said she was authorized to give me anywhere between $5-20 off a month, for 6 months. Finally got the third to give me the following:

$20 off a month on Sunday Ticket, for 6 months ($120)
$20 off a month on my existing Premiere Package, for 6 months ($120)
$10 credit a month, for 5 months, for NFL-to-Go (it was included last year, but it's $50 this year).

So, all in all, I got $240 in discounts, plus the NFL-to-Go (which is what my brother uses to watch all the games). So, in effect, two people get to watch NFL Sunday Ticket for $84. Not a bad deal.

I tried to get the CSRs to give me Premiere + NFL Sunday Ticket for $59.99 for 5 months (deal for new subscribers), but they all said they couldn't do that deal, even after asking a "manager".

I'd rather pay the $300 and spend my time off the phone. The thing easily saves me a few grand in bar tabs.

i get the trying to get a good deal and what not. but honestly stop bitching and just pay up, think of it as a bet on the football game, I'm sure as hell you don't think about that money this scrupulously.

Nobody is bitching. But if I tell you that you could save $240 and all you have to do is spend 15 minutes on the phone, would you take it? Of course you would! You'd have to be an idiot to turn down $940 an hour!

You can't log in twice. So, if you're logged in on your PC and then try to log in with another PC or your iPad/iPhone, it will not allow you to do so and will tell you that you're already logged in elsewhere. However, if you want to split it with someone, as I do with my brother, you can get the NFL Sunday Package for half price. The only issue is that the stream is not in HD, but it still looks very good on his 24" computer monitor.

I got my bill yesterday so I decided to call and see what kind of deal I can get. I wasn't expecting much as far as savings because DirecTV hooked me up with some new receiver upgrades and 6 month credits in April because I moved to a new address. Since the new equipment locked me into a new 2 year contract I had to play the sweet person role over the phone as opposed to the disgruntled loyal customer.

Here is what I got:
$20 off a month for 6 months
One time credit of $50
NFL to go free $50 value

So basically I saved about 50%. Not bad considering I would pay full price for the package if I had to. Hell the only reason I have DirecTV is because of the NFL Sunday Ticket.

So, calling and telling them you want to cancel and them offering to knock a $120 bucks is too fucking hard for you?

I take it you don't line shop?

Remember guys, it cost them virtually nothing to give you the NFL Sunday Ticket, they WANT you to have it and want you to pay for it, even if its something. So if it doesn't work once, try try again. I have used the season ticket argument before (worked), ask them since they are giving it free to new can you have it for half (worked for a friend). Moral of the story, keep trying, you giving them half is better than them getting nothing

Yes and no. It is a fixed operating cost to them. However, DTV was dumb enough to pay the NFL a $1B a year for exclusive rights.

It works better out for DirecTV to have the exclusive rights. So many people would jump ship to the cheapest competitor if DirecTV lost the NFL contract. I think the bars and restaurants alone covers the cost for Directv to purchase the exclusive rights. The credits that show up on your bill doesn't come out of the NFL revenue. That is why on your bill it says $20 credit customer appreciation or $10 Starz discoount etc... As far as the NFL knows DirecTV is charging its customers the $350 it says they are.
