Pesci sues Gotti biopic filmmakers for $3 million

July 27, 2011, 7:24 PM EST

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Joe Pesci has sued the producer of a biopic on the Gotti crime family for more than $3 million, claiming they used his name to promote the movie but then rescinded an offer for a starring role.

Pesci's lawsuit Wednesday against Fiore Films seeks the millions he claims he was offered to play the role of a childhood friend and enforcer of mob boss John Gotti Sr. in "Gotti: Three Generations."

The actor, who cites his starring roles in other mob films such as "Goodfellas" and "Casino," claims the filmmakers traded on his name but later offered him a reduced role and smaller salary.

Pesci's suit states he gained 30 pounds to play the role of mob enforcer Angelo Ruggiero.

Fiore Films spokesman Steve Honig did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
