Prized corner back Nnamdi Asomugha of the Oakland Raiders is a wanted man, and now it’s down to two clubs that want him.

According to NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets are the two teams left in the Nnamdi sweepstakes.

Furthermore, Fox Sports’ Adam Caplan tweeted that America’s Team is atop Gang Green for the services of the lock down defensive back:

“To add fuel to the fire on Asomugha, player source said Dallas, not NYJ, #1 on his list. Problem is Dallas needs to clear up cap space.”]

Stay tuned. I sense a decision on Asomugha will be made soon.

yeah sanchez and scott restructured....but i hear from someone who works for the jets that the race is dead even and that nnamdi likes the "sex appeal" of the cowboys....

whatever as a giants fan it sucks for me either way, id rather him go to the jets even though i hate them

but i dont think having 2 shutdown corners makes the jets THAT great..how much better is he than cromartie? this isnt fantasy football here...... having 2 GREAT corners and NO safeties, NO pass rush does not really make your team great.......

cowboys getting him its a different story because they have a pass rush, but if nnamdi goes to the cowboys and shuts down nicks, we as giants fans in big trouble

I heard because he practiced today that means the Pats didn't restructure with Ocho. Since he was not supposed to practice before the 4th. Anyway, Pats must have something in the works dropping Warren. No way in hell they pay for Nnamdi, IMO. Hopefully he heads to Dallas.

This could change but for now the latest report is Cowboys have inside track..(I would't be surprised if he stays in Oakland).

The Dallas Cowboys look like they're in the drivers seat for landing star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Albert Breer of NFL Network tweeted late Friday evening that the New York Jets are out - for now - of the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes.

The Jets had been pegged as the frontrunners for Asomugha's services as soon as the lockout as lifted. The Texans, 49ers and Buccaneers all showed varying levels of interest in Asomugha, but the Jets and Rex Ryan's defense had been the clubhouse leaders.
Until today.

The Cowboys emerged as a dark horse to land Asomugha earlier on Friday morning, but still, the Jets were supposed to have been holding the edge on the Cowboys. Earlier at Dallas' practice today, Stephen and Jerry Jones were seen sharing a fist bump on the sidelines before handing a cell phone to new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan - not long before the report was filed to the NFL Network that the Jets were out of the Asomugha sweepstakes.
All the signs point to the Cowboys being the team to sign Asomugha, barring a mystery team entering the sweepstakes late - ala Cliff Lee and the Philadelphia Phillies in the MLB over the winter.

Perhaps Asomugha realized that the Jets are second fiddle in both their own town and division, or perhaps he just sees Dallas - or another team, potentially - as the better fit. For now though, the Jets are out on Asomugha.

Nnamdi Asomugha Signs With Eagles Leaving 49ers Looking For Free Agent CB Options = wtf..

The Philadelphia Eagles have swooped in and stolen Nnamdi Asomugha from out of the reaches of half the NFL. Adam Schefter, Jay Glazer and Michael Lombardi all seemed to claim knowledge on the situation and now the Eagles have a press conference
scheduled. Adam Schefter tweeted that the deal is five years, $60 million with $25 million guaranteed. The Eagles texted out confirmation but I was amazed how many people were "reporting the news."

Now the 49ers are back to square one and we are left to wonder what there next move will be. The Jets will likely make a push to bring back Antonio Cromartie. Does the Eagles addition of Nnamdi mean the departure of Asante Samuel? If so, do the 49ers make a run at him if he's cut? Otherwise it seems that Chris Carr, Carlos Rogers and Richard Marshall are the three "significant" names remaining on the market.

It's 30 minutes into free agency and the big shoe has dropped. I'd imagine there is plenty more to come shortly. What's next?

All along, all through the lockout, the Philadelphia Eagles made the most sense for Nnamdi Asomugha. Right up until the moment at which they got Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the Kevin Kolb trade and appeared set at cornerback, it made sense that Philadelphia would address its biggest need by spending and getting the best free agent on the market. But after that deal went down, everybody looked away, and that's when the Eagles pounced.

Shortly after the official opening of the free-agent signing season Friday evening, the Eagles announced that they have signed Asomugha to a five-year contract, stunning a league that had spent the whole day trying to figure out whether he would pick the New York Jets or the Dallas Cowboys. Adam Schefter is reporting it's a $60 million deal with $25 million guaranteed.

This is a stunning and stellar move for the Eagles, who needed to improve a defense that has crumbled at the end of each of the past two seasons. Asomugha is the second-best cornerback in the league behind the Jets' Darrelle Revis. He's the kind of player whose coverage ability allows a defensive coordinator to do many things up front involving blitzes and varying looks. He's an all-world person and personality who won't cause headaches or get into trouble -- who helps put a likeable and intelligent public face on the franchise. The total package, as the contract number suggests, and a big-win move for the Eagles -- especially if the Cowboys are one of the teams away from which they stole him.

Ostensibly, this gives the Eagles an outstanding-looking three-man cornerback rotation of Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Rodgers-Cromartie. There's a chance this could mean the end of Samuel's time in Philadelphia, but whether it does or not, the Eagles will have one of the best secondaries in the league in 2011, a year in which they're clearly focused on winning the Super Bowl.

Multiple reports throughout the lockout said the Eagles would be aggressive once free agency began, and they have. They signed defensive end Jason Babin to a five-year deal to play for new defensive line coach Jim Washburn, who coached him last year in Tennessee. They appear set to bring in Vince Young to serve as Michael Vick's backup quarterback. And assuming they can make DeSean Jackson happier than he is right now about his contract (and probably add a linebacker), they'll start the season as one of the favorites to win not just the NFC East but the whole entire thing.
