An East Hanover resident was acquitted this month of passing counterfeit chips at a northeastern Pennsylvania casino.
Frank George Dellisanti, 62, of East Hanover, was acquitted of all charges on July 15 after a two-day jury trial in the Court of Common Pleas in Monroe County.
Dellisanti had been charged with passing at least 19 fake $100 chips in June 2010 at the Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Poconos.
Dellisanti was arrested at a campground in Stroudsburg after his picture was circulated by law enforcement officials, who at the time said he had passed fake chips at various tables less than a week after Mount Airy began offering table games.
“I happened to go to the casino two nights in a row and a got a counterfeit chip handed to me from the dealer,’’ Dellisanti said.
After winning about $500 his first night, Dellisanti did not cash in his chips because the casino was crowded and chaotic, and he did not want to wait.
He returned to the casino the next night and played some more but, when he tried to cash out, he was accused of using counterfeit chips, he said.
“The gentleman at the counter said they were counterfeit,’’ Dellisanti said.
“They had no evidence, but we had to go through with a trial,” he said.
Dellisanti, who plans to file a civil suit, said clearing his name has cost more than $35,000, including money to cover attorney fees and his bail, which at one time was as high as $175,000.
