I just read a book that covered this topic and was just curious if anyone here has bet this way in the past. From what the book says it's looked down upon by all the bookmakers (obviously).

It seems pretty time intensive and you would need a large bankroll and about a dozen accounts to really pull it off.. But it seems like it can be profitable if you had the right software..Any thoughts?

Just curious about the book you read. Sounds like it was interesting. Heck, BW creates arbitrage with line manipulation. Books look down on anybody that wins - because they more or less provide a road map for followers watching line movement.

Its called Sports Arbitrage Cash in on the Biggest Internet Loophole by Global Publishing... I had just finished reading The Smart Money by Michael Konik which was a great book, and Arbitrage was briefly mentioned so I wanted to clarify how it applied to sportsbetting.

10 years ago you could really, really make some cash this way. Now, you can still make a living but it's nowhere near as easy as with the increase in the internet comes an increase in the flow of information.

The more outlets the better.

As most know, arbs have been a daily activity of mine for years and years.

Any and all sports can present arbitrage oppurtunities...."scalping" is often another term used.

I.E......

Manchester United to win -160 @ 5dimes....1600 to win 1000
Manchester United to not win +170 @ Matchbook.....1000 to win 1700

BREAKEVEN or win $100

I liked "Smart Money" as well. Fifteen years ago I got started with a book called "Crossbet" by Huey Malmuth. Very, very hard to read - not entertaining but the math was there. King Yao and Stanford Wong have books on sports betting you might like.

Fish, why don't you adjust your amts bet so that you will win equal amts no matter which team wins and therefore have a profit on every play. By doing that, I believe you will add a percent or 2 to your overall arb betting. My reasoning being (as in your example above) a -160 fav is more likely to win su than a +170 dog so you will break even more times than you will win $1000.

More times than not, that is what I indeed do.

The above was just an example explaining the procedure.

There are numerous factors that will dictate how to wager a particular arb.........factors I have no time to discuss in length here............talk to me in Vegas when you arrive son.

I'm sorry to say I won't be making it to Vegas. I am getting a big laugh out of you calling me "son". At 76 I am probably old enough to at least be your father if not your grandfather. You have made my day. LOL And I agree with all you wrote.

Can someone provide the exact title of the book and author name. I have not been able to find it anywhere and I have searched quite a bit.

Very interesting thread. My concern is simply this. You will obviously need a lot of different outs to be able to pull this off successfully more than a handful of times. The more books, the more different bets offered. I can't think of a dozen books that I would want to deposit money in right now. Maybe I'm too cautious though. Is that problematic for the guys who attempt to do this?

Exactly! From 2000-2005 we called it 'Scalping' with books like Aces Gold, WWTS, Las Palmas & Olympic you could do very well!

Aces Gold was the best. Friday after 12PM you could get the favorite in football moneylines at -220 & bet the underdog at anywhere from + 240 to sometimes +260 from all most every book Olympic, Chris, Intertops & Jaguar
come to mind. AG would allow bets up to 10,000 on single games.

Today its a waist of time can't be done!

It is still being done, and isn't a WASTE of time. Just harder to do these days.
