I got a couple questions for you all...

1. I am attempting to have a LIVE draft at my house this year. What's the easiest way to do that?

2. We still want everything else to be online, so after we have a draft, what site should we use for an easy transition to online. I would prefer if they had an app so you can update rosters more easily.

3. My Fiance is doing fantasy football with us again this year and she doesn't know a ton. She usually buys a couple of magazines and reads them. This year the magazines aren't accurate given the lockout and all the late Free Agent signings: Are there any good sites I can send her to help and for her to read to get a good idea of information?

She's not really into just put mock drafts, more into reading about the players situations this year because she really doesn't know much. However, she did win the league last year lol.

Thanks in advance for the help

You can use yahoo for your fantasy and do it in person then after you just have to enter into each team who is on their roster. So keep track of the draft on a google spreadsheet or excel, etc. and then after take 5 minutes and just enter all the players in. There are plenty of sites that are good, i stick with yahoo and espn as the basics. I would reccommend the espn fantasy focus football podcast. Its around 40 minutes daily and they give out some good info on there and its not too nerdy.

that works, just a pain for the commish you have to enter each person manually from a scroll bar menu, it will take a good amount of time

Real time fantasy sports is outstanding...live scoring by the second, adjustable rules to suit your league's preferences, etc
I don't believe the cost is excessive, although I don't know the exact amount. Hacheman ran the Bet Jam leagues for the past few years and he could shed some light on it

I did it last year. Took about 10 minutes. You just click a team. Then type in the players name. Pretty simple. I don't know if their is an easier way to do it since your drafting without the computer. But there may be easier ways im just unaware of

Been doing a live draft for years, and wouldn't do it any other way. We use ESPN as the format and yes we have to enter the selections in manually. It takes about 15 minutes after the draft, no biggie. We buy our draft kit from fj fantasy sports and they are great. Set the living room up with the draft board on a 6 foot fold out table with the position stickers in their separate stacks (they are color coded). They will make you owners labels for you also. We have some pretty harsh team names, but fj has no problem with it...haha. We choose draft position by drawing numbered ping pong balls out of a paper sack. We draft in a snake style. Usually take a break every 5-6 rounds to mix more drinks and talk smack. There is always some late night booze influenced trades that go down draft night that is too funny. We have all kinds of food and spirits around. It is a great party that starts in the afternoon and goes until around midnight.

A live draft can be really fun if you do it up right. We all are pretty good friends which makes it even better. I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. Good luck!

In my main league we use cbssportsline, and you can do the draft "online" on one computer. Just use one dedicated laptop connected to a projector; it shows who is "on the clock" and even has a timer that ticks down for each pick. The team whose turn it is just walks up and selects a player (it only lets you select players who are still available), and it "announces" the pick, and puts the next guy on the clock. It even has a scrolling ticker at the bottom showing recent picks and then a quick "recap" at the end of every round that you have to click through to get to the next round (allowing for breaks between rounds if desired).

Obviously the teams are auto-populated.

A buddy of mine in another league bought some draft day software one year that did all the same things, but didn't plug into yahoo (which we use in that league). I can't remember the name of it, but I'm sure there are plenty out there. Bottom line, take your laptop and get it onto your bigscreen via VGA to VGA or VGA to HDMI or whatever, or project it onto a wall - that's the best way to do it.

Live with the big grid and color coded sticker labels is fine too and it's still fun and all that, but it's so much easier to manage doing your live draft with "online assistance"...
