The cost of that cigar is almost like burning money..lol The BHK 56 is the best cigar I've ever smoked. While the 52 and 54 are good compared to the cigar formats they're in, I don't see them as worth the ticket price. Just my opinion as a smoker...

They are expensive indeed Mike, however it is important to take under consideration that the Behikes are the Ferrari's of Habanos SA. I share your opinion in regards the 56's, they are awesome...but...a little wide and big for some smokers, that's the reason to be of the 54's and 52's. However, and in my opinion, they are worth it for one reason, these are the only 3 vitolas including the "Medio Tempo" tobacco leave, very rare to find and difficult to harvest, beatiful and exquisite in flavor and strenght.

But Mike...how much have you paid for those? We have the 56's at $510 when regular price goes between $650 and $850....and the 54's and 52's @ $449 and $360 (now in promo) puff_>>

For the 56, I pay 26cuc, minus my 30% (just under $20) in Havana. Roughly $200 for a box of 10.

But for me as a daily smoker, the 52 and 54 is a lot of $ for a less-than-spectacular cigar. When you're paying that kind of money, the 56 is what it's all about. Can't afford them but on occasion...

It's a process though... When I get to Havana, I have to call around and find out who has the 56. Then I have to run around town gathering them.

For the same price as a Behike, Vivian here will do bad things to me. Cuban women are the Behike of hookers...

Here is a website I've set up dedicated to such a topic. It's like the RX for perverts. It's more or less a guide to the world's brothels. It's free, but you'll need to do the 3 minute registration to view the content. Don't worry, there's no spam involved, with such a topic, I have to guard it from pedophiles.

I also created a map for those of you in San Jose...

Mike, sadly your map is excellent, you obviously have to much time on your hands. LOL

On to the real topic...I have no idea why you consider the 52 a sub par cigar for the money. That cigar is amazing. Ive smoked cigars for over 20 years now and consider it an excellent smoke. To bad its so expensive id make them my daily. It reminded me of the older Romeo and Julieta short smokes I smoked 10 years ago, but way way better. Question, why don't they sell Oliva's here? I love the V Series for its smoke and value. One reason why I don't care about cigar location anymore, because so many quality cigars are made outside of Cuba now. puff_>>

S&S, I agree with you, the 52 and 54's are worth it for the reasons I expose before, the Medio Tempo, the ageing, the finish and general flavour of the cigar, overall presentation....etc. I mean, you can have an Audi R8 which is the top of the notch....but having a Q7 doesn't mean you are riding a worthless car.....

BTW, don't worry about looking cigars in Cuba or elsewhere, check our website ( cigarhint dot com, we deliver here in CR with online prices, RyJ Shorties, Churchills, Partagas, Bolivar, Cohibas, Montecristo...accesories,etc...you name it.

I smoke an occasional cigar. I don't like the selection and prices down here; so I buy mine online and bring them back whenever I travel up north.
BNB, the people I normally buy from, actually have the one you are commenting; Oliva Series V @ $6 a stick.

I think that might be too strong for me. As a novice, I appreciate the Acid Cigars which have a bit of flavoring; and are sweater. And before any of you cigar connoisseurs points it out; I know, those might not be considered 'traditional' and therefore 'real'

* Disclaimer; I'm affiliated to BNB, but the link I dropped is not an affiliate link; and I will make no commission if you buy. Also, I have purchased from them.

Cuban cigars are amazing and a great status symbol, but I feel the best cigar producing country in the world is hands down Nicaragua. Don't get me wrong I also love me a Camacho from Honduras, an H.Upmann from Cuba, but I'd rather have a hand full of Nicaraguan cigars over all of them. Just my personal taste. Great thread.

I know they have international shipping, but they charge extra; plus, you might be hit by the wonderful Costa Rican anuana. That is why I only buy when I, or someone I know, is going to the US.

As a general rule, when I buy stuff from a US company, I always have it sent to my jetbox, since then Jetbox processes the aduana bull crap for me. Also, they have a little thing called service, so I can always call and find out before hand what the taxes will be.

The problem with Cuban cigars is that even though they have the best tobacco, the quality of their roll suffers because they're a bunch of unmotivated commies. I won't argue that you will usually get a better roll out of Nicaragua or the Dominican. Myths aside, unfortunately, Cuba doesn't export their tobacco. It would solve a lot of problems if they did.

I've had to buy back more than one box of tight stogeys in the last few years. I'd say of 10 boxes I sell, I end up buying 1 back. And Havana doesn't seem to understand why they should have to honor an agreement just because they made one.

The Behikes are an exception to this norm. Senior Non quota rollers and the best of the best tobacco. I'm not saying the 52 and 54 formats are not good. I'm saying at that price point, it makes more sense to just pony up the extra few bucks and get the 56.

I took a few buddies from CR to Havana this summer. I figured I'd take them on the tour of the Partagas factory while we were there. During the tour, the rollers were trying to sell us cigars right from their stations. The guide came over and told us not to buy them, or it would encourage them to steal. Then, at the end of the tour, she offered to sell us some of the same stolen cigars at a discount... I love communism...

You think Costa Rica, with the ideal climate for growing just about anything, would be a contender in the cigar industry or at least tobacco?

Eventhough my website features only cuban tobacco, I have to say that Nicaraguan tobacco is good,*however not as good as cuban tobacco because of an unique reason; disregarding the quality or emotional situation of the cuban rollers, the quality and characteristics of the soil between Nicaragua and Cuba will never ever be the same, and that´s all it takes for cigar quality.

Usually the low budget vitolas from Habanos SA are the ones featuring hand rolling issues, but if you move up your taste between the Monty´s No2 and the Cohibas/Partagas/RyJ in the range of $230 and up....you won´t have rolling issues.

Also and not less important, Nicaraguan tobacco has gained success because the Cuban Embargo in the US, otherwise I seriously doubt that it would have become so popular within the US.

Lastly, if you are looking for huge-wide vitolas within the Maduro / real dark range...then go for the Nicaraguans, if you are looking for the best quality endorsed by centuries of tobacco harvesting and hand rolling then Cubans is the option.

Cheers!

Hangman, actually having an ideal climate is not enough when growing tobacco. Like I said before, it´s all about soil characteristics. As a matter of fact there are tobacco plantations here in CR, specially in Ciudad Colon and surroundings, but because of soil characteristics...the quality is really poor; ironically....a very different story with coffee and banana for instance.
