After suffering with many health issues the past 5-6 years my wife lost her life [57 yrs old ] in a house fire June 17th. I came home from the grocery store to a house full of smoke & yelled & hollered & got no reply,i went in to try to get her out but could not get in but 3-4 steps as the smoke & heat was too much, i came back out & then tried to crawl in but could not get very far as the conditions of the heat & smoke was too much, i almost never got out as i got disorientated & finally hit a little shelf near the front door & finally was able to see a liitle bit of daylight & found the front door. The neighbors also tried to rescue her but to no avail, the fire dept.was able to rescue her but it was too late as they said she was without oxygen to her brain for about 20 mins, as they tried cpr & was able to get a faint heart beat on the way to the local hospital. They life flighted her to UPMC MERCY HOSPITAL in PITTSBURGH,PA. but they could not revive her & told me there was nothing more they could do, so i had to make the horrible decision of what to do, she passed 4 mins after being taken off the ventilating machine.I miss her very much as i have been her full time caretaker the past 6 years, the sad part is she got off all her pain meds & was showing some improvement. The fire marshall believes she dumped a ash tray that had a smoldering cigarette in it into a trash can beside her lift chair, she did the same thing about 2-3 weeks prior to that but i was in the back yard & happened to come in for some tool or something & smelled smoke & was able to put it out in time, she promised then that she would not empty anymore ash trays & would let me take care of that.We believe that she became disorientated in the smoke & got out of the chair & went the wrong way instead of going to the front door & got trapped in the dining room behind the lift chair that was in the living room, she could not walk very well without her walker, which she did not have with her where they found her in the dining room, the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning & smoke inhalation. I have had a difficult time as i was not able to sleep very well & kept waking up, so i talked to the fire chief here to try to get some closure as i kept thinking about her whether she suffered so awful much, he assured me that after she had 3-4 breaths of the carbon monoxide that she was pretty much gone, it has helped me some but it has left a very large void in my life, i was working part time mostly on my pc at home but i now go into the office about 10 am & work till about 5-6 on the pc there as a buyer Of autos for a pre-owned auto dealer & also do some consulting work for him. I do that as i have no family & i want to be around people to keep my mind from wandering. The ins co has put me up in a local motel & are picking up the tab for my meals while they are repairing/restoring the residence, they are treating me very good also as to the damage of the residence & its contents.Football season can not come too soon for me, as i hope it will be the therapy i need to help me through this. I am sorry for rambling, but i am almost 73 now & have not many to talk to as most of the people at work are much younger than i am, so about the only family i have is here at THE RX. I would appreciate it if some of you would ask the GOOD LORD IN HEAVEN TO LOOK & TAKE CARE OF JANET. Thank You Sparticus.

Sparticus, please accept the sincere condolences from both The Rx.com and myself personally. I am truly sorry for your loss. May your wife Janet RIP and you should be proud of all the care you gave her over the years. I am sure you selflessly made many a sacrifice to see that she was cared for over the last 6 years..

Losing a loved one is something we all experience in our lives,it sounds as if you did all you could to make your wife's final years as comfortable as possible. You should take some solace in the fact that you did all you could for her..

Sincere Condolences, Wilheim

Its hearing tragedies like this that reminds me of how precious life really is as we spend too much time stressing even the smallest of things in our daily lives. It really puts things in perspective. I'm so sorry for your loss Sparticus.
