With the morning rounds now completed and Steve Stricker sitting at 63 with 7 birdies and no bogeys, hitting fairways and putting lights out, will he take this tournament wire to wire or will he be caught?

I don't know. Judging by his interview after the round, he seemed as surprised as anybody that he shot that good of a round. Especially since he said he was having trouble even making any birdies in his practice rounds. I also don't think that Stricker has that kind of super talent that would allow him to pull away from a field like this. I'm betting things tighten up for him tomorrow.

Couldn't agree more...

Know him well. He never shoots a great first round. His putting and short game will keep him from blowing up. I picked him to win this thing, and have to believe he can play catch-me-if-you-can.

Stricker doesn't talk himself up. As for talent, he's been one of the top 2 or 3 best U.S. golfer over the past 2-3 years, arguably the best this year. This is no fluke. I'd say Stricker is the best player on tour without a major at this point.

I think this tournament will play out much like the Masters. Nobody will pull away, and there will be several golfers in the mix on Sunday, including Steve Stricker. It should be an exciting finish. At least I hope it will.

They aren't gonna let anybody run away with anything, not after the US Open this year....they can set this course up to be down right nasty, especially if it doesn't rain. I think Stricker is great, would love to see him win this week....but I personally don't think its gonna happen this week....stricker will be playing in the afternoon the rest of the week, he is a better morning player, he has all the pressure now, and rarely do players follow up really good round with a good round.

This is the by far the best golf course I've seen these guys play this year.....If they want to, they can set this thing up for the winning score to be around -4 or so, probably higher than that if the greens get firm and fast......imagine playing holes 15-18 on Sunday with a one shot lead, that would be a test

Taylor...I agree with you about the course. With the exception of a tree root or two that shouldn't be sticking up out of the ground, this is one of the better layouts that I've seen. It looks like they could radically change the course if they want to. And you can bet they'll want to after somebody shoots a 63 on their pride and joy....

I agree with a lot of what you said. I think tomorrow is key for Stricker, if he can maintain a multi-stroke lead after 36, I really think that he can close this thing out. I'd expect a few guys to make some charges tomorrow morning.

That's just kinda what you get when you miss the fairways though imo. Def isn't the first time that a players ball came to rest on a root....I personally think Rory and his caddie made an awful, embarrassing choice to not just punch that thing back out down the fairway. It's the Freaking 3rd hole in the first round in a tourn these guys know will be an up and down tourn. Terrible choice to have the most talented golfer at the moment in the world at the age of 22, to swing full blast into and 8 inch tree trunk.

If I was Rory's dad or manager, you can bet I'd be telling JP he better start getting his shit together. I'd tell Rory not to be a dumbass too

That was a time that a good strong caddy would have come into play. McElroy's caddy doesn't look like he fits the profile.

you know where he came from or how he hooked up with Rory?
I think I heard one of the announcers say he was a veteran caddy. But that doesn't mean a whole lot when it comes to handling world class golfers.

Looks like Stricker lost his lead and is falling off his horse a bit. Now I'm pulling muy state local boy Scott Verplank, who just took the lead..

I'm pulling for Paul Casey today, turf toe and all....I took him +180 today against Stricker today. Also took Toms over Mickelson today and I lost this morning on Snedeker against Karlson.
This is a hell of a golf course, back nine is going to be really interesting on Sunday

With no bailout points, I know i wouldn't want to play it. "Bailout" is my middle name...LOL. But it's fun watching the pros struggle and complain. It beats the hell out of that easy US Open setup.
