FSU to the SEC? Could it happen? Will it happen?

Florida State played South Carolina last December in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Could the teams meet more in the coming years if FSU bolts the ACC to join the Gamecocks in the SEC? (Dale Zanine/USPresswire)

TALLAHASSEE — At this point, all appears quiet here in North Florida with respect to rumors that Florida State could, or would accept an invitation from the SEC to become potentially the conference’s 13th or 14th team.
The speculation hit Twitter hard Thursday night, as fans, bloggers and beat reporters started tweeting back-and-forth about the gossip, and about what a move would mean for the Seminoles and their followers.

Why would FSU want to bolt the ACC for the SEC? And … Could it happen?
The Seminoles have been in the ACC since July 1991, after years as a member of the long-defunct Dixie and Metro Conferences, and as an independent.
Since arriving in the conference, the Seminoles have won 12 of the 20 ACC championships that have been played.
Speculation about FSU’s potential move arose after reports surfaced confirming the possible addition of Texas A&M to the SEC. Other writers on the ground in Texas have since taken to Twitter denying the claims. They’ve done so here. And here. If the rumors about Texas A&M do pan out, though, it would send the SEC to 13 teams and a potentially swollen SEC West division. That probably would send the conference looking for a suitable SEC East counterpart to balance the sides. For that reason, most believe Florida State, a team already located in the heart of Dixie, and with a big SEC-style following, would be that 14th team.
Even one ACC basketball coach entered the fray. N.C. State men’s coach Mark Gottfried tweeted this, certainly stoking the fires about FSU. … One would think that even if they agree with him, there are some at FSU who probably were taken aback by Gottfried’s tweet.@):)

Florida would have an absolute hissy fit if FSU was invited to the SEC , i say this is doubtful. Also the SEC's interest in further expansion would be more about getting into to new tv markets rather than about competition purposes and since they're already in north Florida they dont need FSU (yes, FSU would be attractive as far as competition quality , but it's more about tv)

I think it would be more likely another more western team like maybe Missou , and then they could move Auburn from the west division to the east division , although i wouldnt count out Va Tech as a possibility.

If i'm wrong i'll come back and say i'm wrong , but again , it's not about adding powerhouse teams , it's about getting into new markets.

Back in the late 80's or early 90's FSU was offered a spot in the SEC but they turned it down. Back then FSU was a Top 5 team every year and if they scheduled Alabama, UT, Auburn, Georgia, etc every Saturday they would wind up with an extra loss or two than they would by being in another conference.

guessing clemson might be the 14th

It's possible , BUT , they pose the same problem to South Carolina that FSU poses to Florida , AND , that doesnt bring new eyeballs. ... new eyeballs is what Slive wants.
