can always count on this site for about anything....lol....i love the double wing offense, however, in 8 man, we must have 5 on line so we cant run a true double wing....thinking about a full back and one wing back, with the fullback filling the "sniffer" role like in the true double wing....also thinking about running a wedge play or 2 as well as traps, etc...keeping it relatively simple...have a great rb and a qb that can run and throw, so wanting to utilize them...what do u think about defense? i was thinking about a 3-3 stack with 2 corners or safeties or a 2-2 stack with 2 corners and 2 safeties....what do you all think??

You can do a ton of things offensively. What you describe sounds good for kids at that level. One HS program in AZ has ran this the past couple of years and been somewhat successful.

3-3 is probably best defensively. Especially if you have more linebacker types that DL types. 4-2 the other most common run defense.

I like the 3-3 with 2 corners/safeties. You can play zone or man pass coverage with the 3-3. You can line up your DE's in contain, or slip them into the B gaps and walk up your OLB to play contain. Or do both of course.

4-2 is also good, but you are pretty much limited to playing a man defense. DE's outside contain. You can mess around with your tackles and 2 LB's as far as alignment and gap responsibilities. Your 2 corners/safties are man coverage with with outside receivers. If 2 or more receivers line up to one side, you must shift linebackers accordingly to pick up man to man.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Im more than willing to help if you need some more in depth stuff.

We run the wedge a lot in the single wing. The most important thing is that the lineman stay together. If one goes to fast and leaves a gap it will not work.

WC thats awesome.....Cujo, the bigger schools play 11 man here but this is a team of 3-4th graders so its 8 man...last year this same flag football team was undefeated and had great speed and (not to boast, the other coaches were outmatched)....we had one play we ran that scored a td every time but one...all we did was fake the hand off to the full back, the wing back would come around, take the hand off around the opposite end and score...then wed do the same thing on the other side...im going to keep the offense simple, ie, the OL will use the GOD blocking method and we will power, wedge and trap teams to death...then, off the run plays, throw passes over the middle to the tight end who blocks for a 2 count and releases....do you think at this level off tackle plays are necessary?

Necessary? I guess thats an opinion. But I love to run the B gap, which in 8 man football is essentially off tackle.

Motion your wing back behind the fullback, then run a power play thru the 3 or 4 hole with ur fullback lead blocking. You can run it lead/blast/iso style with the fullback 1 on 1 with the linebacker. Or run it kick style with your TE blocking down on the backer as your FB kicks out the DE.

Unfortunately I dont. If you feel comfortable PM'ing me your address, I could maybe send you a highlight film from our state title season, or an old playbook or something.

I have some serious health issues Im dealing with right now, so I was forced to take a year off while I address them. This is the 1st fall in 15 years that I havent coached HS football. Im going thru some serious coaching withdrawls too...

So with that being said, I have a lot of free time during the day most days. Im gonna try to get a couple videos up on youtube. If not, I will mail you some stuff for sure.
