took mom today, for her birthday, and while i know it was designed to be more of a chick flick, gotta say , this is a hell of a movie....very good story, superb acting, some funny parts, some very poignant parts, and overall a quality movie...you will be hearing it's name again, come awards season.........reminded me a lot of Mississippi Burning, The Color Purple, The Long Walk Home, Driving Miss Daisy, and other movies dealing with civil rights and civil unrest in the 60's and showing just how far we have come....

I really enjoyed it as did mom, however, not sure i can ever eat chocolate pie again.......

8 out of 10 stars

I heard black people didn't like it. They make a movie that's supposed to be about blacks but it's always about how some "white" person came along to rescue them. It's all a bunch of crap.

disagree with that 100%.....the 2 black maids were made out to be the heroes, for telling their story, not the writer.....and if there was ever a movie made where it made you ashamed to be white, there were parts of this one that would...what some of those white women did/said, was shameful....

I forget who but some black guy from The Wire said he went to say it with his mother and the mother was angry by the end of the movie. I'm trying to find his twitter comment now.

Here it is:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/...ierce-takes-to-twitter-to-talk-about-the-help

"Pierce said his mother was hurt and insulted by the film, because her experience was, in fact, significantly worse than what was portrayed in the film (what he was referring to as "Jim Crow lite"). "My mother said it was a good story," he said, "but she knows a different reality." (For another view, check out the All Things Considered interview with actress Octavia Spencer.)"

Here is his twitter comment:

""Watching the film in UptownNewOrleans to the sniffles of elderly white people while my 80year old mother was seething, made clear distinction."

I saw the movie this past Tuesday & absolutely loved it. It will definitely be a big award winner.

from what i read about the movie she is right. but at the same time the movie wasn't made to be like that.

from what ive read, it comes off across as more like remember the titans.

a feel good story, but not an accurate depiction of what really happened.

This is exactly why I will never watch this movie. I'm fucking sick of it! There is a goddamned black president.....
