Police in San Diego would like to have a word with Kobe Bryant.

At issue is an allegation that the Lakers star grabbed a man's cellphone during a church service Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times and other news media.

Bryant and his wife Vanessa were attending services at the St. Therese of Carmel Church when Bryant apparently became concerned the couple was being photographed.

Police told the Times that Bryant may have grabbed the phone during a confrontation at the back of the church and checked for photos before handing it back.

10News.com in San Diego reported that the as-yet unidentified man later went to a hospital, complaining of minor wrist pain.

"We're attempting to interview all the (people involved)," said a San Diego police spokesman.

UPDATE at 7:20 ET: Attorney Mark Campbell of Loeb and Loeb LLP, has issued a statement on behalf of Bryant. It says: "Mr. Bryant is aware of the baseless allegations asserted against him, and is prepared to defend against them fully."

And the non-story of the year goes to...

Well, not OP - but ESPN radio who have been touting the "police want to speak to kobe" as though he, heck, i dont know... Forcefully sodomized a young girl against her will. I mean, it's not as though something like that happened.

He tells all the players in the meeting today to stand united to the owners and don't give in. Many of these players are not good enough to play anywhere else. Meanwhile, he is negotiating to play in China for 1.5 million a month. Not hard to "lead" the troops while most sit home making nothing. What a tool!

Good post.

Think about it, and this is not meant to be racist, most players today don't have skills to do anything else in real life.
They wind up broke, or worse.

How many success stories can you name from pro ball players after pro ball?

Jerry West is one, Bill Bradley is another, Mashburn owns like 30 Papa John's and 40 Outback restaurants, he's making a killing, but for every one success story I can cite from players after they retire, I can name 10 horror stories.
