They don't generally move the roads and highways around very often. I'd not worry about it unless you often look for addresses built in the last few years.
My unit ( Tom-Tom) occasionally has a brain fart and sends me in circles, they've probably improved since 4-5 years ago.
I think there are cell phone apps that work as a GPS does, but I don't use cell phones, hate the damn things. I don't want my wife calling me from the car to tell me nothing and then I can sometimes only hear every 4th word. I hate it even worse if I'm driving, I can't listen to the stereo because she has to yak with somebody about nothing.

IF the GPS is working to your satisfaction don't update it, at least not for $50.

I agree Killa...wouldn't pay 50 bucks for an upgrade or update whatever they want to call it. I have a Garmin that I stopped using when I got my smart phone. Google Maps app is awesome. You would love it. Got traffic/walking/biking/ not to mention all the restaraunt/bars/gas stations blah blah blah...free and awesome
