Depends what is available... It's tough to give advice without knowing what is left on the board.

Thats my favorite spot to pick believe it or not.

One of those picks needs to be Calvin Johnson if still there.

Rashard Mendenhall and Calvin Johnson/Larry Fitzgerald should be doable. Just grab Tim Hightower in round 4 or 5 and you'll have a top 15 fantasy RB IMO.

Running backs are important, but that position has more 1st round bust then any other position, and the most out of nowhere players of any other position.

There are always 4 or 5 1st round picks every season that turn out to be complete bust at the RB position.

If you cant get one of the big 3, let everyone else waste there picks on the bust.

If you get CJ and LF, you at least know you are getting quality players.

I can think of 5 RB's that will probably have better seasons then some of the guys that will be 1st rounders.
Its the nature of the position.

Yes, great RB's are rare, that does not mean to take the 8th rated RB in the 1st round just because they are rare.

2 years ago I got Ray Rice in the 14th in a 12 team league, and last season I got J Charles in the 7th while you had idiots wasting 1st round picks on Ryan Matthews I was taking Calvin Johnson and Greg Jennings with my 11th and 13th picks.

Opinion are like assholes and I'm one of em. But I would never take a WR in the first round, let alone my first 2 picks. WR's to me are easier to get in the later rounds and much easier to pickup decent ones as the season goes along.

Agree though hard to say "take X" without knowing who goes in front of you. I would take the best player on the board and most likely a RB unless the top 10 picks before you are all RB's, then probably a top QB if that happens, etc.

If you could get J Charles in the 7th last year and Rice in the 14th 2 years ago not sure how competitive your leagues are. I know those guys vastly outperformed their average draft positions but thats a bit low for both of them for a 12 team league.

curious where vick is going, he is gonna give you the qb #s and has the potential to run for anywhere up to 100yds with his legs if he has a great game and add more td's running as well....if he was on the board id strongly consider taking him but i dont play FF...

guys, every year I take CJ very high and it seems as if hes always injured or questionable....he'll have monster games and then disappear for a few weeks....each year at the end of the year I tell myself Im not going to take him no matter what the next year but I always do it seems....do you all have a reason to believe hes going to be even bigger this year? Due to Stafford or something?

Unless you know who will be picked in front of you, this question is pretty close to unanswerable. I would go WR then RB, if one of the top two or three WRs is still available. I would not draft a QB I don't think, but could go WR /WR or RB/RB depending on who's left on the board. But it'll all depend on the other players in your league I imagine (does some moron draft Manning in the top 10? Brady? Etc...)

Yeah, impossible to give advice in this spot without knowing how the first round shakes out leading to your pick.

In a high percentage of leagues you know there is a very good chance that AP, CJ, Charles, Foster, Rice, McCoy, MJD will all likely go top 7, you can throw Mendenhall and possibly Turner in the top 10 for most leagues. At 11 your RB1 is gonna be pretty sketchy in that position. I would not waste a late first round pick on Frank Gore who seems to get injured quite a bit the last couple seasons, or Michael Turner if your in a PPR league. From pick 9 on in the first round this year I would definitely go with one of the top stud WR's that you would rank in your first tier such as Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, Nicks, and Fitz. You can even make an argument for grabbing two of these stud wideouts as the RB's that are ranked 10th to 20th don't have a whole lot separting them in my opinion. If you really feel like you need a RB in round 2, guys like McFadden, Forte, Deangelo Williams, Blount, Moreno, Bradshaw, Grant, Best, Jackson will all be there in rounds 2 and some in 3. But no need to take any of these backs in Round 1, just no value in it

The only WR worthy of a first round pick is Andre Johnson and I really don't think it's close. Kolb will certainly be better in Arizona than what the Cards were tossing out there but he's still not an elite QB and the offensive line/running game is woeful. I love Megatron as much as anyone, the Lions will pass in the top 5 of the league, but if Stafford goes down it's bad news.

I think most first rounds will look as follows:

1. AP
2. CJ
3. Charles
4. Foster
5. Rice
6. Mendenhall
7. Vick
8. McCoy
9. A Johnson
10. Gore
11. Rodgers
12. Jones-Drew
