The Grey Cup Champion Alouettes return to Alberta for the first time since winning the big game last year. And even though it’s just down the road in Calgary instead of Edmonton, many people had predicted that it would be these two teams to meet in the final in 2011. There were two teams this year that have risen above expectations, and at the start of last week both Edmonton and Winnipeg were the front runners instead in each conference.

Edmonton has started to struggle though having lost 3 straight, which may set up Calgary to take over the top spot in the West if they can beat Montreal. Montreal have rolled over opponents this year with an incredibly potent offense that’s scoring 31.7 points a game. The key to the Montreal offense is Anthony Calvillo, and the only time that this team has struggled this year has been when he’s been out with injury. The key for Calgary it would seem would be to get pressure on the old QB, and see if they can’t get back up Adrian McPherson into the game. Easier said that done obviously, as Montreal has created a deft offensive scheme built on quick passes, making it very hard to get a hand on the geriatric Calvillo. It’s giving Calvillo a new lease on his career, and could lead him to another MVP season, and perhaps another Grey Cup appearance. Until someone is able to stop Calvillo and the Montreal offense, it would be unwise to bet against them.
