Because that's the way baseball works, when a shitbum is supposed to keep performing like a shitbum, he pitches like Tom Seaver, and when a Cy Young pitcher is supposed to keep performing like a Cy Young performer, well, he all of a sudden has a brain fart, and pitches like Charlie Morton.
