ATLANTA -- An arrest warrant has been issued for former NBA player and Georgia Tech star Javaris Crittenton in connection with the shooting death of a mother of four, Atlanta police said. The shooting happened Aug. 19 shortly before 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of Macon Drive in southwest Atlanta.

Investigators said 22-year-old Jullian Jones was walking with others when someone from a dark SUV opened fire. Jones was struck and later died.Police believe the shooter meant to kill one of the two men that Jones was walking with.

The men were unharmed, police said.Channel 2's Ryan Young learned of the latest developments early Friday.Police said the motive appears to be retaliation for a robbery that occurred in April in which Crittendon was a victim.

Crittendon most recently played with the Washington Wizards. In 2010, Crittenton was suspended for an incident involving a gun inside the locker room. Crittenton went to high school at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy. He helped lead Georgia Tech to a 20-12 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2007 as a freshman.

As a long-time follower of Georgia Tech hoops, just crazy how he was in the NBA at a young age (left GTECH way too early IMO, thought he needed at least one more year) and he is still only 23. Just tragic for him and the mother who got killed.
Meanwhile, the people who started the mess by robbing him didn't even look like they got hit.

FBI JOINS MANHUNT.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is helping police in Atlanta and Los Angeles search for a former NBA player wanted for murder.
FBI Special Agent Steve Emmett in Atlanta told The Associated Press on Sunday that the agency is involved as police look for Javaris Crittenton. Authorities say Crittenton is charged in the fatal shooting of 22-year Jullian Jones, a mother of four who was gunned down Aug. 19 in Atlanta..
Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport said Crittenton was not in custody as of Sunday afternoon. He declined further comment.
Authorities say Jones likely was not the intended target when Crittenton fired shots from an SUV. Authorities say Crittenton was retaliating for an April robbery in which he was a victim.
Crittenton spent the 2006-07 season at Georgia Tech and played in 113 NBA games

ATLANTA -- The family of a woman who police said may have been gunned down by a former NBA player is speaking out.

Jullian Jones, 22, was killed last weekend in a drive-by shooting along Macon Drive in Atlanta.

"We didn't only lose a mother, a friend, or a daughter, or a fiancé, we lost a loved one who was really special to us in our hearts," June Woods, Jones’ mother, said.

The day of her burial, family members took comfort in the fact that police have named a suspect in the shooting.

That suspect is Georgia native and former NBA basketball player Javaris Crittenton, who is wanted on charges of murder.

Investigators believe he intended to shoot another person who was walking with Jones, in retaliation for a robbery earlier this year.

"If you're a star player like that, you have enough money to, even if he was robbed, even if that was the case, he had enough money to replace it. You can never put a price on her life," Harel Butler, Jones’ fiancé, said.

The bullet, instead, hit Jones. Atlanta police said they are working with the FBI to bring Crittenton into custody from Los Angeles where he's been since the shooting.

"By you coming by here just shooting at an innocent person, you wasted your life. You've torn up two families. You tore up your family and my family, and that wasn't right," Woods said.

Even though police believe they are closer to an arrest, Butler said it does nothing to ease the pain.

"I don't know what to say sometimes when my kids ask me when their momma is coming home. Watching them cry. Saying how much they miss her. That's all that's running through my mind," he said.

Don't think this will end well. Typical set up for suicide or deadly shootout with cops.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton, who was suspended from the league for having guns in a locker room with teammate Gilbert Arenas, was arrested Monday in Southern California to face a murder charge in a deadly Atlanta shooting.
Crittenton was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. at John Wayne Airport in Orange County after checking in for a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.
Eimiller said he was arrested without incident by FBI agents with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities were trying to determine whether Crittenton will make an initial appearance in federal court, or be taken directly to Atlanta to face state charges there.
"He offered to turn himself in," lawyer Brian Steel told The Associated Press earlier Monday. "He's not guilty. We look forward to getting it to the courts."
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported that Crittenton planned to surrender in Atlanta.
Police earlier obtained a murder warrant for Crittenton in the Aug. 19 shooting of 22-year-old Jullian Jones, a mother of four young children. Police say Jones was walking with two men when she was shot and they believe one of the men with her was the target.
Police spokesman Carlos Campos on Friday said the motive appears to be retaliation for a robbery in April, in which Crittenton was a victim.
When asked about Steel's statement that Crittenton planned to surrender, Atlanta police didn't confirm it.
"Mr. Crittenton is wanted for murder," Sgt. Curtis Davenport said late Monday. "We will be pleased when he is taken into our custody in a peaceful manner."
When he was with the Washington Wizards in December 2009, Crittenton and Arenas had a dispute over a card game on a team flight. Two days later, Arenas brought four guns to the locker room and set them in front of Crittenton's locker with a sign telling him to "PICK 1." Crittenton then took out his own gun.
Crittenton pleaded guilty in January 2010 to a misdemeanor gun charge and received a year of unsupervised probation. Arenas entered his guilty plea on Jan. 15. He served a short time in a halfway house.
Steel said he was retained by Crittenton's family on Monday morning, and was in contact with Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard and the FBI Fugitive Task Force to make arrangements for the former player's arrest.
"They asked that he come to Atlanta, and we said 'no problem,'" Steel said.
Crittenton is on the roster of the NBA developmental league's Dakota Wizards.
