This is just complete BS. Last year I had to go to jury duty for three days. This was last September for Federal Court. Now I get a summons from Criminal Court which is completely different. They don't care that I served already in Federal Court.

This is complete crap. What are the chances of the same person having to go twice in one year. I am fuming right now.

I have been called but large group was dismissed.

I wish people wouldn't look it at like a chore, but treat it with the respect they would want someone to treat their legal matters with if they were in court.

Go vote or get your license renewed. I just figured this out. I had my license renewed two weeks ago and this is how they got it. The bad part is I know they will pick me. I've been two times and got picked twice. This is a joke.

If there is a fine I would rather pay that.

yep, one has Nothing to do with the Other.
But in NY there's a way to get out of one............... Not sure it's the same for where you are... but might be.

Under Federal law, a person cannot be required to serve jury duty more often than once every four (4) years. If you have served in the United States District Court or a New York State Court within the last four (4) years, and wish to be excused, please mail a copy of your official jury certificate, together with our summons, in the return envelope.

I'm gonna make calls and see if I can get out of this. The problem now will be getting a human being on the phone.

Wait.....Betall is right I think. The form says you can mail a copy of proof that you served in jury less than 12 months. Just checked and I served on September 10 of last year and this summons is for September 21. I guess I am screwed.

ignore it ! unless they sent it it certified mail requiring a signature, you never got it !

I went once in my life like 15 years ago, never again will I do it.

If you go, they put you on the Sucker list and summon you often, don't go ...thet leave you alone.

Jury duty should pay at least $100 a day, then many would actually do it. I'd have done it willingly when I worked for USPS, They'd still pay me and a few daytime hours in court would beat unloading trucks on graveyard.

Make it $200 a day and 90% of people would love to be called for JD.

just tell them you want a case with some (fill in the blank), that you think all (fill in the blank) should be in jail.

they won't pick you.

I know Doug, but the judge last time said to everyone that it was no excuse.

I almost thought it was a joke when I saw this. I work, they should get people who are unemployed and living off the government. At least make them earn their check.

My advice is...you never got the notice, let them prove you did, they can't, unless you signed for it.

You should be able to postpone it for a year if you accept it. Prior recent service should also exempt you.

Are there any legal guys here in the RX that know more about this?

I just saw this:

What if I fail to report for jury duty?
In the State of Florida, Jury Duty is governed under Chapter 40 of the Florida Statutes. Within this chapter are penalties for those who do not report for jury service. “Any person who is duly summoned to attend as a juror in any court and who fails to attend without any sufficient excuse shall pay a fine not to exceed $100, which fine shall be imposed by the court to which the juror was summoned, and, in addition, such failure may be considered a contempt of court.”

$100 or the most boring day of my life? I think I'll go with $100.

but that means going there once which is what 95% of people called wind up doing.

I never got the Fucking notice. My mail carrier is incompetent, I get mail for other people every week ( all true).

The letter I got from the USPS was misdelivered when they wanted to hire me and I needed to report for a drug test.

I was at 81 xxxxxxxxxxxx street, they delivered it to 81 yyyyyyyyyyyyy street, I didn't get it until 2-3 weeks later, and missed the scheduled date. Then when they hired me they said I was going to Ansonia, Ct in some paperwork and it was New London initially. New London was correct.

I couldn't take it there after 5 years +.

Mail gets "misdelivered" very often, You didn't get the notice unless you signed for it.

Your employer must pay you anyway, if you are self employed that is a problem.

I'd go with " I never received notice" to get out of this BS civic duty. I stopped buying that BS about the time that cops set up speed traps, or about whenever one turns 16.

Do you really want your fate decided by 11 ( or whatever the number is) people dumb enough to not get out of jury duty ?

GOD DAMN THE USA !

Tell them your a Buddhist and you'll get out of jury duty. It is against their religion to pass judegement on others. If that doesn't work, tell them you have Tourette's Syndrome, and then call the judge a fucking asshole. I bet they'll excuse you...As for me, I've gotten called twice. On one, I got excused the same day, and the other time I served 5 days on a jury in a police brutality case.

Trust me. Last year I looked up excuses online and none of them would ever work in real life. LOL calling the judge a fucking asshole. I'd get arrested right there.
