Since We are having some threads about some of the Old Time Casinos, my mind slides to another era of days gone by in Reno. I lived in Portland, Oregon most of my life and therefore my first adventure in Casino gambling was the far closer Reno. My favorite Casino very soon became the Nevada Club which was wedged between Harolds Club and Harrahs. The place was certainly bordering on the dumpy side in the mid to late 60's but they gave a person the best odds in town for sure. They dealth a single deck blackjack in which a person would see all 52 cards as they would cut the deck with a joker. They also had a single zero roulette game that changed the house advantage way down. I was playing a blackjack strategy that called for the player to only need to count Aces and Fives. Fives are actually more important to count than Aces. Those were the good old days for sure. The Nevada Club had sheet Metal tape over torn carpet seams but nobody really cared. The place rocked ! I came with a group of fellow mailcarriers from Portland one trip and one of the rookie mailcarriers was playing a game of craps and He had never played before so He was playing only the sucker bets that payed really good. Cliff Carpenter was his name and He placed a $ 1. on Snake Eyes and when a pair of Eyes showed up, He yelled out " Let it Ride " . Of course all the knowledgeable gamblers tried to tell him how Stupid that was. Well I don't need to tell you what happened as of course back to back snake eyes came up and He grabbed his $ 900 bucks, gave the stick guys a nice bump and got drunker ! In those days a lot of the big Stars performed at Harrahs, John Ascuaga's Nugget in nearby Sparks and of course Lake Tahoe.
