plasma man. no other answer

Try to get you an old Pioneer if money is not an issue

Pioneer KRP 500M is what I got.
3 years old, still the best tv ever made.

You can get them on EBAY for about 7K sometimes.

Who ever heard of a TV going up in value after buying?
LOL

Thats just proof that nobody has been able to come up with anything better yet.

Look for the prices on 42" models or "family sized" to drop. Saw something on it the other day about tablet PCs, like the iPad costing more then TVs in the near future.

Plasmas are much cheaper than LCD and LED for a reason...

Haven't done much research but I'd go with LED.

LED's are definitely efficient and a thing of the future.

LED televisions are just LCD panels with a different type of light providing the brightness... It's still an LCD, and thus suffers from the same shortcomings. Honestly, if you're in an area where it's possible, go to a boutique electronics store and test drive a few. Is your room light-Controlled? What time of day do you watch most of the games? Plasmas are my choice because I tend to value black-level really highly, but they do tend to reflect light more than LCDs. Do you only watch sports? If so you may want to go LCD/LED as you won't have to worry about image-retention (burn-in). The poster who suggested reading up at Avsforum.com is wise.

Plasma is still king. LED is still LCD like the poster above me said.

You want the best plasma? Get the Panasonic Viera TC-P50S30, it's the best tv right now. I always go by Consumer Reports and they have this tv rated 10 points higher than any LCD/LED tv and it's the highest rated plasma tv.

I second this. I bought Panasonic Viera w/ 3D TC-P54VT25. Best TV that I have owned. This will be first football season with it, pretty stoked.

Yea I got mine in DEC 09 calibrated by D-NICE at AVS forum with the ISF patches.
When I hear people say stuff like LED is better I just LOL.
Apparently they have never seen a KRP 500M.

If you check EBAY prices our tv sells for over 7K used, when I was able to buy it new for about 3K.

Thats more then double.

It must be over 7K used for a reason right Hache?

Thats a pretty good screen.
Panasonic bought all the Pioneer patents.
Its only a matter of time before they will be able to come up with something as good as a PIO.

Panasonic will surely be the plasma king.

I remember the first time I saw a Pioneer Elite... Then a few years later the Kuro... Insane sets. Wish I had picked one up back then. I do like the high end Pannys too, had a G20 awhile back, and before that the 77u series. All very nice televisions.

Yea, the Panny's are about the best you can do right now.

Panny not bad, I have a G15 in the bedroom.
Just not quite as dark as the KURO.

I will say that if money is no object like OP mentioned, highend samsung LED sets might be worth looking at - don't even bother with edge-lit models though, check out the thicker locally-dimming (backlit) models. It'll be worth it just to find out what type of picture you like.

The best plasma right now is probably the Panasonic VT30 series. It will run you between 2400 and 2700 for a 55" model, not sure about the 50"

Celtic speaks the truth.
But if you are willing to buy used, you can find some old Pioneers that are still the king of all TV's.

But Panasonic is the best new thing you can buy.
