i had the 3rd pick in my first draft a couple days ago and took rice first round, this is what my roster ended up being.

qb: rivers
rb: rice, felix jones, ben tate, pierre thomas
wr: boldin, vincent jackson, ochocinco, collins
te: finley, gonzalez
k: henery
d: ravens.

we start 1 qb 2rb 2 wr 1 flex 1 te 1 k 1 d.

now i have my final draft today and i have the 3rd spot again. i like rice, but i want a totally different team and want to avoid drafting the same players.

what strategy would you go with in this situation?
even though its way too high im thinking one of the wideouts(johnson/johnson) or vick. thanks.

Not a big fan of your first team honestly, I think you must have overpaid for Rivers because even after getting Rice you aren't really that solid at RB and you don't have a true #1 receiver IMO.

I would definitely go RB with the 3rd pick again, it's just too high to reach for WR or QB in this spot IMO. If you want a different team then I'd suggest going with chris johnson or jamaal charles in round 1.

I don't understand why people stretch so early for those elite QBs, it seems to me this is something that has changed over the last few years. I just don't see the value there in terms of relative points. You can land a josh freeman/bradford/stafford type in round 7 or 8, and they will score what, 50 points less than the top tier QBs? Compare that to the 100+ point drop off from gore to felix jones, or fitzgerald to boldin, etc etc etc.

Suggest waiting back at QB this time around. At the very least it will leave you with a different looking team. JMO, good luck.

So here is an illustration of what I am talking about. I had pick #3 in my most recent draft and arian foster fell to me. Then in round 2 I took gore and then forte in round 3. Then in rounds 4 and 5 I took dwayne bowe and brandon lloyd, respectively. Ochocinco in round 6, stafford in round 7, freeman in round 8, tony gonzalez round 9.

So the team I ended up with this:

QB - Stafford (Freeman)
RB - Foster, Gore (Forte, Woodhead)
WR - Bowe, Lloyd, Ochocinco (AJ Green, Sims-Walker, Earl Bennett)
TE - Gonzalez (Schiancoe)

Much more solid at RB, I have a true #1 fantasy wideout in Bowe, and just deeper in general. All because I waited on QB, and still ended up with a very formidable pair of starting QBs I can play based on health and matchups. I just feel more comfortable with this type of team. Blow your load on a QB early and it's just hard to recover and make the rest of your team solid...

Thats fine if you think that but I have yet to see any rankings that have Bowe rated higher than vincent jackson. Jackson is at worst the #10 WR this year, which is a #1 WR in a 12 team league. With that said I dont disagree with waiting on QB or even TE.

I picked 3rd in a draft yesterday and this is my team:
QB Romo and Stafford
RB's Foster, gore, steven jackson, felix jones
WR's Vincent Jackson, Brandon Marshall, Welker, Lance Moore
TE Jimmy Graham, Dustin Keller

Charles at 1.3, but A Johnson isn't the worst pick.

Probably a little weak at WR GTC08, but I love VJ this year. A good sleeper late is Johnny Knox. R Williams has done nothing and i dont know how he made the team.

OK, I'm not that high on v jax, but will concede that he is and should be considered a #1 fantasy WR. I personally think bowe is set for a much bigger year, but I guess that is just opinion.

Point is, I think the team I posted is very solid, and the depth is good. Just illustrative of the draft strategy I was suggesting.

If Foster and Peterson are off the board, I would go Chris Johnson if you don't want Rice again.
