##)Marriott President’s 25-year-old Son Wins $107 Million Lottery

medium_richdude.png
25-year-old Brian McCarthy of McLean, Virginia won $107 million in July's Mega Millions lottery. A tipster points out, and public records confirm, that he happens to be the son of Marriott, Inc. Group President Robert J. McCarthy, who earned $1.2 million in 2009.
Brian bought the winning ticket on a whim while he was withdrawing money from an ATM at the grocery store. After winning, called up his grandma after learning on Facebook that he'd won the prize and she replied, "You deserve it. Can I make you a grilled cheese sandwich?" Aww. Brian's taking a single payment of $68.4 million, which he said he'll be using to take a trip to buy a BMW M3 and go on a golf trip to Ireland.
Congratulations to all of the McCarthy's, for your soul-crushingly good luck! Meanwhile, an Ohio guy is suing his coworkers at the Kraftwork factory because he claims they cut him out of their $99 million-winning lottery pool. Poor people can't get a break even in a game of random chance. [Powerball.com]

I dont understand the problem.....

Because the guys DAD made a whopping $1.2 million last year, it means this kid is set for life and not deserving of winning the lottery?

My dad has been successful and makes decent money, but at no time did that mean I was all set and didn't need to earn my way.

I don't know about hanging. Sometimes money goes where money is. I'm sure the kid has a high paying job waiting for him if he ever wants/needs it.

I think with the events that have transpired in the sporting world today, you don't need some rich trust fund baby to make you reach for the rope.

That's what federer, usc, and notre dame are for.

This is close. It does not involve millions but a fair amount tp an average Joe like myself

I was doing my annual March Madness visit to Vegas. I though rather than handicap a pant load of games just do one futures bet and relax and enjoy what Vegas has to offer.

OK I go to Binions ane get a futures sheet for the 4 regionals. Kansas looks great at 6/5 to come out of the SoWest bracket. Ok I put down 11K at 6/5 to win $13,200. Kansas rolls through the first two round and I head home to the east coast.

The Sweet 16 comes and the Jayhawks blow out Richmond. VCU upsets Fla St. Setting up a Kansas v VCU elite 8 game.

I look at the game and think NO way Kansas losses to VCU. NO WAY. Especially after last year when Northern Iowa caught Kansas with their pants down.

I am telling myself that I should go back to Vegas and Hedge with VCU (who was +700) in the game. I am lucky as Mrs Mailman understands about these gaming situations and would encourage me to go back to get the guarenteed profit.

I planned to go back and put 3k on VCU (moneyline) This would have guarenteed me a 10k profit either way. Deduct same day airfare which was $750 rt from Boston and another $250 for a nights hotel and meals. I was going to lock up 9K guarenteed.

Instead of just doing it. I look at the game. Regular season Richmond blows out VCU. Kansas blows out Richmond.

I decide against flying back as it looked like I was just be cutting into my profit of $13.200 when Kansas would take care of business against VCU. On paper it looked like I would just be giving back $4000 (3k on VCU moneyline and about another $1000 in expences.

We all know the outcome of the game. It made me sick to this very day.

Moral of story. Go with the hard math numbers and to not "think" about any situation. It will cost you as it did me

Hey, That's What I Want puff_>>

Don't get me wrong i wouldn't mind having a M3. Very nice car by all means. Just saying if i won 68 million i would definitely upgrade a little to maybe a Maserati Gran Turismo, Aston Martin, or the new Porsche Panamera Turbo which a friend of mine has. That car is freaking amazing fast. 3.6 0-60. Crazy Fast.

I test drove the 2012 BMW M3. Car is in sane and I think it comes close to your 3.6 0-60 time. The car I drove listed 101,000.00 and it was worth every penny..............

It's not the $1.2 mil. Dad is President of Marriott. Kind was set for life. Bet his dad is still richer than him.

I was surprised to learn that also. I know a guy who is a GM at a Marriott in San Diego and he makes almost 300k (according to him) and to think the president of all Marriotts make only 4x that is shocking.

The dad is not President of the company...only a small division. In fact on the corporate website on the list of management starting with the Pres (Mr. Marriott himself) on down there are about 15 people higher in the company than him..
