B.C. Lions at Saskatchewan Roughriders Line: EVEN Over/Under: 49 ½
Never in the history of the CFL since it began its new playoff format, has an Eastern team crossed over to the West. While Montreal seemingly has dominated since returning to the league, Winnipeg, Toronto and Hamilton have always been considered to be the bottom feeders of the. This year however Hamilton got off to a hot start and Winnipeg emerged as an elite team. Combined with the slow starts of the B.C. Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders, it appeared that it was going to be an Eastern team coming to the West for the playoffs. The Lions and the Roughriders have turned their seasons around however and are both riding hot streaks as they clash this weekend in a race for that final Western playoff spot.
The Lions are riding a 4 game winning streak going into Saskatchewan with their most impressive win being their last one, a 32-19 win in Calgary. Even though the defense gave up a couple of offensive touchdowns, they were the standouts again allowing only two TD’s but one came during garbage time when the game was done. The Lions it seems have made some nice adjustments in the secondary that have enabled them to play an aggressive style. Their front 3 are among the best in the league, they have potential defensive player of the year Soloman Elimimian to complement Korey Banks and Dante Marsh in the secondary. Their issue the last couple years was filling out the rest of the secondary, but it appears an injury to Davis Sanchez, has opened the door for the defense to finally stabilize. DB Tad Kornegay was picked up when Saskatchewan released him earlier this year, so you know he’ll be pumped to stick it to the Roughriders.
