Who's planning on seeing it this weekend?

Originally I was going to wait, personally I think Billy Beane is a bit of a fraud, since other baseball people like Gene Michael in the 70's were employing Beane's theories 15 years before he did, and is a tad overrated in my opinion.

Michael kept silent on his money ball theories, such as on base percentage and WH/IP because he didn't want other GM's to know what he was doing.

Beane gets a lot of the credit because he brought 'small ball' to light, but far from the originator that people make him out to be.

Having said all that, critics from all over, some who don't know a double from a double switch are raving about the film, I'm hearing/reading from virtually everybody that Brad Pitt and Robin Wright are tremendous in this.

So, it looks like Sox/Yanks will be a rain out tonight, don't really care for the BYU/Cent. Fla game too much, I think I just might plunk down a sawbuck and watch it first run.

I'm reading the Book Now. So far I like it.

I'm sure the Movie won't be as good as the book ( like in most cases )

So I will play the wait and See game.....

No championships.

Beane's Oakland team has won one playoff series in 2006, they beat the Twins, then got crushed by the Tigers.
His teams have finished below .500 every year after that, and they aren't this year sitting in third place at 70 and 86.

He's not going to get to .500 anytime soon with the current cast of characters he has now, like Barton, Crisp, Willinghan, DeJesus.........

Like I said, I don't particularly like the guy.

I really enjoyed the book and was sort of looking forward to the movie, until I read Dsethi's post.

Just saw the movie. I was unaware of the details (other than trailer and pre-release buzz). It's a story I'm glad to have heard. The fact that it was based on truth leaves you wishing everything went a little further... like a championship. I enjoyed it myself. I never lost interest and laughed at least 5 times out loud.

I haven't read the book.

I am surprised a movie could be made out of a subject like this.

Just got back.

I enjoyed it a lot, like Desthi said, the film did take some liberties on the facts.

Having said that, I thought it was better than Dsethi's review, it wasn't quite the tour de force the critics say it is though, good entertainment, lots of good humor.

Solid B+

I respect your opinion, and you are right, but the film is what it is, entertainment.

But yes, my wife is a knowledgeable fan, knows more baseball than most dudes, she was like "Giambi's brother is a red head in real life, bad casting there", but she said John Henry was portrayed to a tee, I thought Justice could have been portrayed better.

Like I said, good entertainment, but like you said, they built up the 20 game win streak like Oakland won the WS 3 times, when in fact Beane's team haven't really done squat.

Trading away young prospect Carlos Gonzalez is a good way to ensure mediocrity.

I finally saw Moneyball yesterday afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I admire Beane's decision to rethink baseball and to have the commitment to see it through. Great movie.
