PHILADELPHIA — Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is uncertain whether he’ll be able to play next weekend against the 49ers, after breaking his right (non-throwing) hand during Sunday’s 29-16 loss to the Giants.

Vick also thinks he is being hit late every week by opponents, but that referees are not calling penalties when they are warranted. Vick was injured when he was hit by defensive tackle Chris Canty after completing a pass to Jeremy Maclin in the third quarter. Vick, who suffered a concussion last week, thought Canty’s hit should have been a penalty.

“I felt like I got hit late—there’s no flag, broke my hand,” Vick said. “I was trying to protect myself. Didn’t get a flag. That’s pretty much been the story the last three weeks. Obviously at some point, something catastrophic is going to happen.

“I just think more protection should be taken when I’m inside the pocket. You look at all the replays … I’m on the ground every time. I’d be lying if I sat here and said I wasn’t frustrated right now.”

Asked if he felt he was not getting calls that other quarterbacks get, Vick said, “Absolutely. The refs got to do their jobs as well.”

Asked if he could play against the 49ers, Vick said, “I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to play next week. I don’t know anything right now except my hand is broken. We’ve got to figure out the next move.”

In his column on FOXSports.com, former NFL vice president of officiating Mike Pereira took exception to Vick's critical remarks about the league's officials.

"Doesn’t get the flags like everybody else? That’s bull," Pereira wrote. "The rules are no different for Michael Vick than they are for anybody else. These complaints are not new. Vick—and the Eagles—have complained ever since he returned to the NFL in 2009.

"He is a talented scrambling quarterback. In fact, there isn’t another quarterback like him. He’s constantly on the move and he is going to end up on the ground sometimes. But just because he’s on the ground, it does not mean he was hit late.

"The officials have a tough enough job as it is, being second-guessed all the time. The last thing they need is unwarranted criticism."

Report: Vick could miss 3-4 weeks

NewsCore Updated Sep 26, 2011 9:40 AM ET..

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick looked set to miss three to four weeks at least after breaking his right, non-throwing hand in Sunday's 29-16 defeat to the New York Giants, NBC Philadelphia reported Monday.

His reported absence, cited to NBC 10's Howard Eskin, would mean either Mike Kafka or Vince Young under center for next weekend's home game against the 49ers, plus the trips to Buffalo and Washington, before the Eagles' bye week.

Kafka replaced Vick on Sunday with the Eagles trailing 22-16, before throwing two interceptions in the unsuccessful comeback.
Vick first left the game in the third quarter to have X-rays performed on his right hand after a hit by Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty following a 23-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin.

The left-hander returned for one series without missing a play, but he did not rejoin the Eagles' offense when they took the field midway through the fourth quarter.

Maclin also left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return. A team source told Eskin he stood a good chance of playing against San Francisco next week.

Vick -- who signed a six-year, $100 million contract before the season began -- also was unable to finish last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons due to a concussion.

The flashy Pro Bowler said part of his injury woes had to do with unfavorable treatment by officials.

"I'm on the ground constantly, all the time," Vick said at a news conference. "Every time I throw the ball, I'm on the ground. And I don't know why I don't get the 15-yard flags like everybody else does. I'm not trying to blame the refs. I just want them to take notice."

Of the hit from Canty, Vick said, " still didn't get a flag and that's pretty much been the story for the last three weeks. I mean, obviously at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand."

Vick is not going to get much sympathy from the league or its fans.

First off, his style of QB play is conducive to being put down on the ground often.

Second off, I really don't think people want to hear him cry after the very generous second chance he got.

exactly its his style of play, refs cant blow the whistle when he is in the grasp because he sometimes breaks out of it, he doesnt like to go down, so when teams put him down he bitches...

yesterday where he broke his hand, he JUST released the ball canty already was hitting him and vick slammed his hand into canty facemask and fell down...... and he is complaining the giants late him to break his hand...... i said it before ill say it again, he wont play more than 10 games this year

i would not know where to hide if i was a member of the eagles organization or a fan of mike vick after seeing his press conference....this is the best time in the history of organized football to be a QB. Its almost criminal how easy it is compared to the QB's of the past...vick really expects the fes to hand him 15 yards at a time because he was hit in a football game??

isnt this the same guy who 2 weeks agao said he played RB all his life and knows how to take hits?? Big tough guy whining and crying that life isnt fair and he is being treated poorly.... I just shake my head and laugh...i would be ashamed to even have someone like this on my team..

vick plays a violent game of football. he doesn't stay in the pocket.

doesn't help that the o line is a joke as well.

cutler is the same way. he'll be dead if he keeps taking those hits.

Impressed that Vick held his tongue and limited complaints to questionable calls. On one hand I do think hits on Vick as a running quarterback might not be called as quickly as on some slow footed pocket passer. But under recent rule changes to protect QBs, Vick might have gained some cover to start his broken play runs. I think refs do their split second magic well and Vick's complaints are mostly an extension of 'dream team' frustration.

Definitely does not get the calls the other QB's get, if that was Manning that got hit like that(broke his hand) there would have been a roughing flag....

for one its NOT a broken hand, its being called a right hand contusion and its up in the air if he will play against SF this sunday.maybe vick should also blame his offensive line for not protecting him all season, that line stinks.i do believe what CUJO says, that if it were peyton manning or tom brady they would be protecting him more(the refs).he also had chances to run for 15 or more yards at times yesterday but chose not to and seemed undecided so maybe he was still feeling the effect of that cuncussion from the week before as he didn't seem himself

The crybaby just threw a pick 6. Has 3 INTs in one quarter. Philly is 1-3 on the year and losing 7-21 against Buffalo. I love it.
