For those of you who don't know...

In his first at bat today he layed down a bunt for a single. After the bunt, he requested to be taken out of the game in the 1st inning. By going 1-1 this all but guaranteed that Reyes would win the batting title in the NL. I know the guy is a free agent and the numbers matter but does anyone else have a problem with this? If I am a paying fan this bothers me because he may not be back next year. I understand the fans in attendance were very upset.

Reyes is gone next year. Bad for paying fans and dumb move by management to allow him to come out. The batting champ title will drive up his price if im his agent

The last day of the 1941 season, Ted Williams had a .39955 BA and could've sat out and had it round up to .400, but he insisted on playing and went 6-8 in the doubleheader to bring it to .406. That takes balls.

if the guy played hard all season and put up the #s and they are in the final game of the season adn the team is out of it, i say let him make the call....if the guy wants to come out to win the batting title then fine, the team goals are dead....

nyy started a rookie pitcher tonight and have tossed out 8 pitchers tonight in 7 innings, if the game was in NY and you paid for a ticket would you be mad if it was supposed to be CC and they pulled this move? i wouldnt....

CC is a pitcher going to playoffs....Reyes is an everyday player leaving the mets for more money.

But isn't a team goal to try and win? I understand your point about the Yanks but playoff teams aside. They have nothing left to play for. I am not sure if you can compare each situation as the same. Reyes is the Mets best player and I am sure a lot of fans went to see him today and they never did. The knock on Reyes is he is me guy and this just proved it. He also came out after the game and said he did for the team and the fans. All of which is total bullshit

if the guy was hitting 272 and wanted the day off i could see your point being lazy etc but he A) started the game and got his 1st AB B) got his hit and wanted to call it a day....to win an award thats pretty significant

it would have been interesting had he been thrown out if he would have stayed in the game...

personally i can see both sides of the argument but im gonna side with the player on this one.... if it was me and i went to the skip and said listen i wanna start and if i get a hit on my 1st ab to lock up the hitting title i want out....i wouldnt expect to get into an argument about it

its kinda like brady and the pats being 7-8 and out of the playoffs but he's got 4700 yards going into his final game against say 1-15 KC and the game is meaningless would you fault him for wanting to throw the ball on every down to set the all time yardage record for 1 season when the normal play calling would be 70% pass 30% run and they threw it 95% of the time? what if his stats were 34-80 for 400 yards ....would that take away from the record b/c it was forced and meaningless? i remember a game in the nba years ago someone (kobe or david robinson maybe?) who went for like 80pts b/c he shot the ball almost every time they had the ball b/c he wanted to win the scoring title....the games meant nothing....its the same as him being taken out of the game, they forced it...he didnt...

Brady throws the ball on every down anyway. I say that with respect.

WWTWD (What Would Ted Williams Do?)
Great point on the 1941 reference...and guess what, 100 years from now, dads will still be telling their sons stories about Ted Williams..... and Jose Reyes, like Carlos Beltran, like Carl Crawford, will all be answers on a trivial pursuit baseball edition.

Nice little hit streak going;

8-8-12
Reyes extended his hitting streak to a career-high 26 games, the longest in the majors this season.
