Is there any legitimate reason for banking there? The fees they charge seem almost criminal.

BANKofAMERICA good for those that travel often in the mainland U.S..................branches everywhere.

Otherwise, somewhat crappy.

Find a local Credit Union. Credit Unions are the best IMO. I have four accounts 3 with the big banks and one with a Credit Union.

Agreed. I've never used a "bank"....except for my first car loan. I use a local CU in hometown in Florida and USAA Banking....

Not sure why anyone would use a "bank"....

Whats the advantages to a credit union over a bank?

As far as BofA goes...Yeah it does suck, but lets face it it is convenient for most of us since there are ATMs and branches EVERYWHERE.

Would I like to use another bank instead? Yeah I would but BofAs size alone just makes it so convenient for tons of people (myself included even though I do think it sucks)

BofA raised my checking fee from $8 to $12 this month!
I called them and chewed them out...
I went paper-less $0 charge...

Ps
2012 BofA is gonna charge $5 a month for Debit card usage:>(

There are ways to get out of fees if you look into it. I have accounts with US Bank, BofA, and Wells fargo and pay zero fees with the exception the Debt card fee at some ATM's. Be nice and ask your teller. Have heard about these debt card monthly fees that are coming, you can thank the FEDS for that one. They're doing it in order to make up for billions in lost revenue due to new regulations. There will be tricks for getting out of that too.

Why don't you just open up some rewards checking accounts with some small local banks.

Hilarious that people are willing to pay for checking and pay to use their debit cards at Bank of America while they could earn 2.5% in a rewards checking account. And for anyone that says "but BoA has so many atm's. they're so convenient", I can use EVERY SINGLE ATM IN THE COUNTRY *for free*. I get rebated all the atm fees.

For instance, in Houston, you can use either vistabanktx or texascitizensbank.

Who the F pays for a checking account? Get a free one, and use your credit card for the rewards. Bottom line is the big banks are the same. I have both a Chase and a BoA account incase one gets compromised, I lose a card, etc. Like sportsbooks, you gotta have at least 2 outs.
