I'm thinking Tennis. That is if the pro broke his ankle against the high school player... Pro withdraws and VICTORY !

Forget Boxing, the pro would kill some rookie. Same for NFL, NBA, NHL.

a nobody ( average high school ) baseball player....maybe one lucky hit in 100 at bats.

These guys are at a way different level.

the only situation i can think of, an amateur pitcher getting an out from a professional hitter.

First that came to mind was bowling and pool. Happens all the time in both. If you want to consider poker, well then that is the most regular.

Sure with billiards. I could play a game of 9 ball against the best and sink the 9 on the break. I'm talking more like the match, not a game or point.

I think Tennis for winning the match, at just like average HS level.

golf sure there are amateurs out there who could shoot a great round and a pro has an awful day

bowling maybe 1 string but i think it would be tough if it was best of 7 or something like that....

tennis 0% unless its b/c of injury

Amateurs match up with top pros all the time in billiards and get the cash. Not just a game, but something like a 20 ahead match or something.

Poker is not a sport. It ain't a sport if you're sitting at a table, maybe even smoking, and probably having a drink ( soft or hard).

It's a skill game like Chess, not a sport.

I'll buy that, but these must be top quality amateurs.

Obviously we're talking on more than one occasion, like if a solid pool player beat a pro pool player in one lucky game in which everything has to go wrong for the pro.

So, the answer is Basketball and that's about it.

Guys on the street can beat NBA guys here & there.

Billiards isn't really much of a sport, more of a game of skill.

A sport should require some sort of physical exertion....Tennis, Baseball, hoops, hockey. handball, jai-alai, polo, even Golf are sports. If you can play it at the pub....it's not a sport.

While it is not on the level of many other sports that you mentioned, but I promise you if you gind out a 18 hour match on a pool table, you will be more spent than a four hour round of golf. Unless of course you are making frequent trips to the john :coke:

basketball..... the only pro sport imo a somewhat athletic guy can walk on the court and produce in the stat category!! a few rebounds, assists, and a bucket or 2 or some foul shots are not out of the question!!

and plenty of h.s. hoopsters can do some 1 on 1 vs a pro and win... there are some real shitty nba players!! and there are quite a few h.s. guys who are the real deal!!

other sports
bass fishing- any ole country boy can out fish a pro
curling- who can't curl

if you count broken ankles there are very few sports a pro can win with a broken ankle....maybe MMA, archery, arm wrestling

So billiards is a sport, and now fishing is a sport?

I suppose darts is a sport too?

The next thing you know they'll be saying that golf is a sport.

A preposterous notion if in fact the "average high schooler" is facing a "top pro".

They would not win a single set

This.
I'm a former bowler, you get a talented amateur that has a down and in game (like Walter Ray Williams) and put him on oiled lanes that don't hook, conducive to a down and in style, put him up against a big hooking pro, I'll take the amateur every time.
