With the Tigers winning last night, why not throw him tonight to have a better shot at evening the series. He could also come back and throw game 7 if need be.
No, Leyland has already announced that he WON'T be pitching Game 4, regardless of the result. They mentioned that Verlander led the majors in innings pitched, and if Leyland says he needs the rest, I'm gonna assume he knows his pitcher better than I, or anybody else here, does.
Not sure on Porcello's pitch selection but if he heavily relies on breaking ball it might be a bad night for him. I think rain is in the forecast and mid to high 50s. Might be difficult to grip the seams if its wet.
