Lefties out of the pen are Arthur Rhodes and Repliewdzinki....whatever the hell that guy's name is that came over in the Rasmus trade.

This is the loosest bunch of guys I've seen under Larussa ever, including the World Series win in '06. Got to love their chances.

Cardinals only starting lefty is Garcia, who throws much better at home. His splits are ridiculous. He will start games 2 and 6 almost undoubtedly. Great set of breaking balls when he's on, but he's starting to wear down, especially around the 5th inning.

The bullpen lefties are Rhodes and Scrabble. Rhodes is hit or miss and will only face one batter at a time more than likely. Scrabble has dominated Howard and Fielder in the past two series, and can face more than one.

the "don't call him the closer" is Motte, who's a fastball pitcher still developing an off speed pitch. He has about 6 different fastballs, and might be able to shut down the rangers the first time he faces each batter-but I don't expect him to do it multiple times.

Salas and Rhodes are some what similiar-both have been thrown into high pressure situations, but I really don't have a feel for them as far as pitchers. Lance Lynn has been money the entire seasons (when he's been healthy). He can go multiple innings, and probably will.

Carpenter everyone knows.

Jackson's fastballs are pretty flat. I expect the Rangers to hit him

Lohse will be decetn the first time through the order but get pounded after that.

The Cards don't lose much when they are in an AL park, they have Allan Craig who would be a 4 or 5 hitter on a vast amount of teams in the league. The Cards lineup is SOLID! As in Berkman could bat 7th vs lefties.

Furcal
Theriot
Pujols
Holliday
Freese
Craig
Berkman
Molina
Jay

All probably have more info as we go along. Some cardinals hitters suck vs soft tossing lefties, some will wait back and drive it (freese)
(Therioit could drop to 8/9 and Craig to the two hole, though)

sorry for the triple post but just thought of something. A few of the Cardinal starters will be coming inside a lot more against Texas than vs the Brewers. Just a heads up.

Good post......I have to.disagree with you on one thing. Garcia will pitch in Arlington and colby Lewis not Holland will pitch game two for Texas....you see, there is a recipe to winning baseball games in Arlington and the main ingredient is left handed pitching. If you don't have it, your shit out of luck around here. Aurthor Rhodes is an old ranger scrub, he will be ok for situational spots, but I wouldn't think he could get a full inngs work in one appearance, at least not in Arlington that is. He got lit up around here, which is why he plays for st. Louis now......I do think cards bats can take advantage of the jet stream in arlington, not as well as the ranger simply because that's what the rangers are built for, but cards veteran sticks can hold their own. How does the ball fly in st Louis? It seems the warning track is a trampoline out there, if the ball lands there it tends to be a ground rule double everytime, am I wrong? Bottom line, st. Louis starting pitcher don't scare rangers, and rangers starting pitching doesn't scare cardinals. Should be entertaining. May the best bullpen win I guess

yup, i agree it will come down to the bullpens.

But I'm about 97% confident Garcia starts 2 and 6, he's a mental head case on the road...he's only a 2nd year guy. Doubt they put him out there in any other spot

Lohse and Jackson get pounded in Arlington, more than likely.

Not sure 100% how Texas lineup sets up, but unless they have 3+ lefties in a row, Rhodes won't face more than 1 guy

will be cooler in Arlington for the series (upper 70s instead of low 90s). cold front coming through.
but this series definitely has an "over" appeal to it with all the big bats.

yep, cool front is coming in tomorrow. not sure how the weather sets up for this wkd, but a cool front means a north wind, so no jet stream. the ball will still usually carry well though

From TX park layout I have seen when the wind is out of the north it blows out to right....is that not correct?

That's exactly right. But the field sits well below street level so a ball has to be hit really really high to be affected at all.

Rule of thumb for the ballpark in Arlington......when the flags are pointing in, the ball is flying out. South wind blows in from right field, hits the bleachers and blows directly back out to right and right center in a hurry. Line drives are affected the most. Most high POP flys will get above the jet stream and have no effect. That is where the name jet stream comes from and that's why its important to have left handed pitching in Arlington. Nobody utilizes the jet stream as well as Michael Young. He will more than likely be inducted into the hall of fame one day because of his ability to hit the gap in right center at the ballpark in Arlington. The rangers whole team is built on taking advantage of their stadium

anybody catch the stat that teams with home field advantage in the world series are 20-5? I know the Cardinals will eliminate Nelson Cruz's bat this series.... IMO, Hamilton has the monkey on his back... because he pulled the Lebron last trip here, so if he isn't hot, Cardinals will win.

It's a lot easier to remove Cruz's bat when he is in the 7 hole. The prob for the cards is word on the street says Cruz prob won't be in the 7 hole. Might be sandwhiched between Beltre and Napoli, maybe young and beltre, hell Cruz might even be in the middle of Hamilton and young in the cleanup spot. I think Washington will find a way for Cruz to see some pitches.

Hamilton has a messed up groin, he isn't healthy at all. Maybe the rest will have helped him, but I'm not expecting any jaw dropping performances from him.

As far as home field advantage goes, and this isn't a homer statement. The rangers have the clear cut advantage in 3 games no question about it. Three lefties for the rangers pitching in Arlington vs 3 righties for cards. That's the advantage. You have to have left handed pitching in Arlington, which is why Colby Lewis has been moved to start game 2 and 6 in st. Louis. The only home game the rangers lost in this postseason in Arlington, was to a guy that was left handed, rangers had never faced, and had a hard breaking curveball in the afternoon shadows. Game one against Tampa bay, Matt Moore be thy name. Im not saying the rangers win 3 in a row here, but I do think they go back to St. Louis and only have to win one to clinch the series.

okay okay.. I respect the info...but you still sound like a Ranger homer to me. and you know I can't take homer's seriously. lol just kidding...but GL. I like colby Lewis and this Rangers bullpen I do have to say. I'll be betting on Colby on the road for sure...Texas is just full of successful teams.
