I do not think there was much the cops could do. As much as I love animals and hate hearing about them being shot, this was a disaster. You had 50 animals running around residential neighborhoods and it was going to be dark in about an hour.
I'm amazed no one died and one human life would have been too many considering they lost none by shooting.
Cops don't have 100+ tranquilizer darts on hand. Hell the zoo probably only has 10 or 20 and the closest zoo was 40+ miles away in Columbus.
Even then, if you shoot a tiger with a tranquilizer, he gets pissed off for 2-4 minutes before going to sleep. How the hell do you do that in a neighborhood?
It sucks, but I think shooting them was the best option.

was really mad about this when i saw it first but then sean1 made a good point residential nieghborhood, god for bid one of these animals ate a frickin kid or killed a human would of been nice to save some but if they didnt have means and this was a last resort dont have a problem with it just dont know if it was a last reort for sure or not.
The real problem is they had no idea where the animals were. It's not like there was one or two and they could trap them. There were 50 lions, tigers, and bears. The cops couldn't screw around for 15 minutes catching one. Shooting them was the only option.

I'm the first one to stand up for animals and think that humans are mostly pieces of shit when it comes to treatment of them... but the local authorities had to do it. You can't have 50 lions and cheetahs and whatever else running around near people. Tranq'ing em would have taken too much time unfortunately. Sad story.
