At risk of sounding like a square, the dallas cowboys and new orleans saints lines were both very low considering how bad both of their opponents have been. the books made good money on saturday, but overall, the spread for good teams versus bad teams this season in both nfl and college have been horrible. it appears that they arent making any adjustments and the bad teams seem to be getting worse on top of that. I wonder if we will ever see a day when sportsbooks post their own lines instead of the standard line put out by vegas sports consultants or whoever it is that creates the opening lines these days. with the internet and all of the information one can derive there are many people who make better lines than the ones being employed by vegas and offshore sports books. Smalltime books are gonna tank if it doesnt get better for them soon.

thats nothing, how about these college lines with the teams like lsu, bama, stanford, boise, etc that cover almost every week

this is the nfl, there is parity, unlike college football
for every week where all the big favs cover you will have a week that is the opposite
did u mention the pack today?
how about pitt last week?

if they were not getting action on the other side, wouldnt the line just continue to keep going up and up until they did. books really dont care about how close the line is to the final, they just want equal action

There aren't many guys that can make a line...the best work in offshore....

Don't feel sorry for the offshore major books like CRIS, Pinny, Olympic, and Legendsz...they will get theirs...

If the lines on the Cowboys and Saints were low, you should have retired betting the farm...I knew a few sharps that were on the opposite sides...are you a lifetime winner Kev?

I can see being on the other sides of these, but the steelers line blew me away. That line was horrible. What was the perception the linesmakers were trying to get people to jump on the cards with that line? Horrible. Should of been -7.5

Lines are made to attract two way action - period. Sure you are going to get your share of runaway winners like the Saints last night. Books prefer those kind of results to games that land right on the posted line because in the first example they only have to pay one side, the bettors who laid 19 or more points points on The Saints (Plus they are teaser killers, all Colt and huge point teasers lost)..

Games that land on the number are much worse, books end up paying, in many cases both sides with few losers and all teasers (if the other half won)...So when you see a team win big and cover in the first period remember there are plenty of smart players who automatically take a 19 in the NFL.

It's easy to say The Steelers line was a bad line NOW after the fact but much more difficult prior to the game being played. There was plenty of Arizona action that ended up paying off the books. Tonight 4-1 Baltimore is -10 to -11 over 1-4 Jacksonville on the Jaqs home field, in a game that could easily end up 35-0 Ravens but do you have the stones to lay 10 or more in the NFL on a road favorite?

Speaking of Teasers, Steak T is right, teasers are hurting books which is why you see many books make your teasers for you and let you choose which one you want (The BetCRIS family of books for example). They say ties win but when you look at the menu for say two team 6 point teasers your are forced to use about 80% of the teams with hooks on them already, which eliminates the ties win option by itself. So books are fighting back to some extent. Others are adding extra juice in teasers to make them less profitable.

The real problem today in the NFL and often in College Football is the lack of parity, it has disappeared compared to only 5 or 6 years ago. Back then is was rare to see such mismatches as the Colts vs Saints game last night. Sure Pitsburgh won by 12 as a 4 point road favorite but it took a safty and and a team record 95 yard TD pass to do it. The game was 17-14 in the third quarter before the Steelers scored four straight times.

Eventually books may just price teasers off the market if they keep getting hammered by them.. A book can make teasers unbetable by jacking up the juice and creating menus and still attract players by offering reduced juice on straight bets..

I completely agree wil monday morning qb is always the easiest job. But any teaser, parlay anything and a straight bet i pounded that line. It was too soft.

The books will get theirs believe me, they will get mine, they will get yours. I just cant remember them struggling like this in the past. I hope its not a case of tecnology catching up to them and we are the advantage simply on the fact we wont have anywhere left for action.

I can back up everything you guys said.

This season, so far, have been utter crap.

NCAAF is the worst by far this season.

Good Luck all.

I don't bet double digit nfl favs regardless of who is playing. Lifetime I'm down huge. Over the past 5 years I've come out ahead (record-wise) in NFL, NBA and MLB. I've lost $-wise though because I don't have the discipline to exercise proper money management.

I've gotten smoked in college football and college hoops.

Holy shit Viejo, you just made me realize that I'm a fuckin square!
