Broncos Win? Pittsburgh Mayor Tebows

Mayors betting local food products on big games is so 2011. The new currency is Tebowing.

If the Broncos upset the Steelers on Sunday, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has agreed to dress up in a Broncos jersey while Tebowing in front of an iconic Steel City destination, according to the Denver Post.

Tebowing is defined as "getting down on a knee and starting to pray, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different," according to Jared Kleinstein's popular blog Tebowing.com.

Should Ben Roethlisberger's team win, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will don a Steelers' jersey and wear a yellow "Terrible Towel" to a public gathering.

The boys in Vegas place the Steelers as a huge 8.5-point favorite, despite Sunday's game being played in the Mile High City. Mayor Hancock, a former Broncos mascot while a senior in high schooll, is confident that Tim Tebow will end his recent string of lousy play.

How bad are things for the Broncos? Denver would be favored on a neutral field against just 29 percent (nine teams) of the 31 NFL teams, according to R.J. Bell of Pregame.com (via the Wall Street Journal).

The Broncos lost their past three games of the regular season to the Patriots, Bills and Chiefs by an average score of 29.3 to 13.3.
But Tebow's motto is Any Given Sunday -- or should be, anyway.

"Denver is excited to host the Steelers for this playoff game and confident in our Broncos," Hancock told the Denver Post. "We're looking forward to sharing that photo of Mayor Ravenstahl 'Tebowing' ... say at Heinz Field?"

The Mile High Mayor has announced today is "Orange Friday" in the Rocky Mountain city, in honor of the Broncos return to the NFL postseason.

FORMER LAS VEGAS MAYOR OSCAR GOODMAN 'TEBOWING'
Oscar Goodman, who served as mayor of Las Vegas from 1999 through 2011, is shown "Tebowing" Friday at his restaurant Oscar's Beef Booze Broads. *He's replicating the craze started by Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who assumes the prayerful position after good things happen. Goodman, a serious sports bettor, hinted he might be taking the Broncos, who are two-touchdown underdogs in Saturday's NFL playoff game with the New England Patriots. (Photo courtesy Gini Germany)

Many of tonight's nominated celebrities will be saying a little prayer as they grace the Golden Globes.

And Maria Menounos decided she would help them along with their wishes when she took to the red carpet.

The TV presenter, 33, chose to strike the infamous Tebow pose to mark her arrival.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -
A Florida teenager had his diploma withheld and was ordered to clean the school gym as punishment for Tebowing on stage during his graduation ceremony -- and later discovered the punishment was his mother's idea.

Chuck Shriner, a 17-year-old football player at the private Fort Myers Catholic school, performed the popular kneeling-in-prayer pose Saturday and said he was shocked at his punishment, Naples News reported Tuesday

"I just thought it was fun," Shriner said. "I was just doing it to make graduation memorable."

The move, which also requires placing a fist on your forehead, was inspired by Jets quarterback and devout Christian Tim Tebow and has been mimicked across the world, even spawning a website where people can submit pictures of themselves striking the pose.

Shriner's version drew laughter from the audience, but not the school's administration, who told him he would not be getting his diploma at the ceremony.

"They said what I did would give underclassmen inspiration to do something else, that it might lead to something else," Shriner said of the administration's reaction. "So they were trying to set an example."

He added on his Facebook page, "Moment in my life I'll never forget, getting my diploma taken away for doing the Tebow on stage in front of [Principal John] Cavell. So worth it."

But after cleaning the gym Monday, his mother -- a math teacher at the school -- told him she was the one who pushed for the punishment because she wanted to "teach him a lesson."

Shriner's mother picked up the diploma on his behalf.

"She was really mad," he said. "But I think it was worth it."

Mom was pissed. First rule, don't embarrass your parents in public.
