Full Tilt Poker founder Bitar denies*guilt

NEW YORK — The founder of an Internet poker company whose U.S. operations were shut down after criminal charges were brought last year has pleaded not guilty in New York.

Raymond Bitar (BIH'-tar) was arrested Monday as he arrived at Kennedy Airport.

A magistrate judge ordered him held until a $2.5 million bond could be secured.

A prosecutor called Bitar a risk to flee after his return from Ireland to face charges brought a year ago. He says Bitar faces decades in prison if convicted of conspiracy and wire fraud charges.

Bitar founded Full Tilt Poker. He's originally from Los Angeles. He says he knows people are "very angry" at him. He says he's working hard to get players repaid and hopes it will happen soon.
