But if you'll notice, pass interference and holding are NOT reviewable by instant replay! Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Pass interference...

There is no question about it..

called inconsistently and often times yields catastrophic results

I'm beginning to think the NFL has to do away with their spot foul ruling and use the college rule.

A questionable call shouldn't be allowed to have such a major impact

I agree with this. PI should be a 15 yard penalty from line of scrimmage. Especially when it happens in the end zone. Giving the team the ball at 1 yard line is ridiculous on such a judgement call...

A DB breathes on a wideout 60 yards down field on his own 2 yard line and it's pass interference and the ball is spotted at the spot of the foul. It has become a strategy in the NFL these days. Desperate - throw the ball as far down-field as possible and hope for PI.

I am all for player safety but these collision roughing calls with huge fines attached are often unavoidable in a game like Pro Football. Ever watch Rugby? I swear we are not to far from two hand touch now in the NFL. Pro Football in the 50s while not the big deal it is today was so much more enjoyable to watch as a sport. The "play is under review" has ruined the game. A player is running off the field and replay shows he didn't get his second foot out of bounds and it's 12 men in the huddle.

Ray Rice runs for a 75 yard TD on the first play last night but it was called back because a receiver and a defensive player locked up for half a second.

Then on the the other hand a player is running legitimately by a DB into the clear and has his jersey grabbed and held as witnessed by 50 million people and nothing happens. QBs crying to refs after every incompletion. They may as well just review every play and get it over with, all we need on the field refs for is to spot the ball where their told to and break up the after every play scuffle. Guys making millions should have a little risk of injury involved.

Sorry for the rant.

wil.

Let's face it, if you wanted to fix football .....hmmmm......the fastest way to move a losing team down the field is pass interference.....and to stop the greatest runner in the world, all you have to do is call holding. Then you'd make sure that neither call is reviewable by instant replay. Wait a second....that's what the rules are now!!!

Blame the colts for this, especially the illegal contact, which is a direct result of polian whining to the rules committee about the way the pats played defense.

PI and holding have always been huge judgement calls; the only difference between now and back in the day is that back then there were only a few cameras and no HD or super slo-mo. The quality of officiating hasn't changed a bit.
