imagine if the NBA were like the following pizza shop business scenario.

all the pizza workers had agents, and all the workers belonged to a union.

all the pizza shop owners decided to divide up the town into districts.

some districts are more affluent, and therefore they can charge more money, of course expenses are more because everyone knows the pizza shop in the rich part of town makes a ton of cash. The agents want more money for the employee, the newspaper wants more money for ads, the building owner wants more money for rent...

some districts are less well off, they can't charge more money. expenses are the same because agents say that drivers on the other side of the tracks make $20 an hour so all drivers should make $20 an hour. the newspaper charges the same because it is what it is. The building owner charges high rent, because pizza shops "make a ton of money"...

to help out the less wealthy pizza shops a "revenue sharing" deal is made between the owners

Pizza shop employees buy fancy cars and rent nice apartments. They have serious game. The envy of all.

this goes on for years and years until one day the agreement between the owners and workers expires.

so all the owners get together. the owners of the more successful shops are happy with the status quot (except the revenue sharing part)... the owners of the less successful shops want to do something to change things.

The workers want more. They've waited for this deal to expire so they could get a "better deal" Now they will finally get their payday!

The owners know they can't pay drivers $20 an hour so they want to cap pay at $15 an hour. The owners of the rich pizza shops say "whatever" and they take it to the union for a vote.

Ahhh Hells no! Agents say the owners are treating their workers like slaves and none of the drivers want to make $5 an hour less so they vote it down.

so the owners of the poorer shops come up with a new plan, they don't mind paying drivers $20 an hour, but if they don't do their job well they would like to demote them to dishwasher for $10 an hour. They would really like to fire them for under-performing, but the agents said that took away a workers "right"

surprise surprise, workers union voted that idea down too.

This goes on and on, round and round.

The whole time the workers are not collecting paychecks, the owners are still paying rent but they are not selling pizza.

The town's Chinese take out has none of these problems and is doing a thriving business.

to be continued...

At least give credit to the original source.

i thought i made it up, it wouldn't surprise me if there is another analogy out there that is similar to this maybe replace NBA with MLB and pizza shop with car dealer... I don't know.

kinda like on always sunny when danny devito starts recanting about 'nam and it sounds just like the rambo movie.

Nevermind. Sorry, I thought you had read copied this from somewhere else.

Can't hate a man with a Michael Larson avatar.

i remember watching that show as a kid and having "discussions" with my sisters as to when they should press the stop button. I insisted that there was an pattern that could be exploited, they said no way.

then in high school I caught the news story about some guy breaking the bank on press your luck. I knew immediately that someone must have figured out the pattern and was able to get on the show and actually win.

I was only 16 or 17 at the time, but it changed the way I looked at things. I could "think" of ways to make money, all I had to do was take action on them like this Larson guy.

When I brought it up to my sisters, they said that the guy was a cheater, and it wasn't "fair" and he shouldn't get paid all that money.

Now I look at guys that run hedge funds, oil companies or software companies and use them as sources of inspiration. My god they make a ton of cash. I love it. The Occupy Wall Streeters remind me of my sisters.

I just recently saw the documentary of that guy. I am not joking when I say that guy is one of my heroes.

I got a hankering for a slice of pepperoni, extra cheese.

Kidding aside, good post.
