imagine if the NBA were like the following pizza shop business scenario.
all the pizza workers had agents, and all the workers belonged to a union.
all the pizza shop owners decided to divide up the town into districts.
some districts are more affluent, and therefore they can charge more money, of course expenses are more because everyone knows the pizza shop in the rich part of town makes a ton of cash. The agents want more money for the employee, the newspaper wants more money for ads, the building owner wants more money for rent...
some districts are less well off, they can't charge more money. expenses are the same because agents say that drivers on the other side of the tracks make $20 an hour so all drivers should make $20 an hour. the newspaper charges the same because it is what it is. The building owner charges high rent, because pizza shops "make a ton of money"...
to help out the less wealthy pizza shops a "revenue sharing" deal is made between the owners
Pizza shop employees buy fancy cars and rent nice apartments. They have serious game. The envy of all.
this goes on for years and years until one day the agreement between the owners and workers expires.
so all the owners get together. the owners of the more successful shops are happy with the status quot (except the revenue sharing part)... the owners of the less successful shops want to do something to change things.
The workers want more. They've waited for this deal to expire so they could get a "better deal" Now they will finally get their payday!
The owners know they can't pay drivers $20 an hour so they want to cap pay at $15 an hour. The owners of the rich pizza shops say "whatever" and they take it to the union for a vote.
Ahhh Hells no! Agents say the owners are treating their workers like slaves and none of the drivers want to make $5 an hour less so they vote it down.
so the owners of the poorer shops come up with a new plan, they don't mind paying drivers $20 an hour, but if they don't do their job well they would like to demote them to dishwasher for $10 an hour. They would really like to fire them for under-performing, but the agents said that took away a workers "right"
surprise surprise, workers union voted that idea down too.
This goes on and on, round and round.
The whole time the workers are not collecting paychecks, the owners are still paying rent but they are not selling pizza.
The town's Chinese take out has none of these problems and is doing a thriving business.
to be continued...
