In an ongoing debate far more interesting than anything coming from the Republican presidential candidates, Carrie Fisher hotly rebuffed William Shatner’s assertions that “Star Trek” is way better than “Star Wars.” “First of all," the former Captain James Tiberius Kirk spewed in a recent interview, "‘Star Wars’ is derivative of ‘Star Trek’ by what…10, 15, 20 years? DERIVATIVE!” The bellicose Shatner continued. “’Star Trek’ had relationships and conflict among the relationships, and stories that involved humanity and philosophical questions,” he said in the video chat that he tweeted to his fans. “’Star Wars’ was special effects!”

Whoa! Those be fightin’ words in this or any galaxy. And now Carrie Fisher has struck back.

“They’re not in the same league,” the former Princess Leia declared flatly in a video uploaded to her YouTube channel (see below). “I mean, they have the word ‘star’ in the title, and there’s space travel, right? Where did they go? Klingon? It just sounds like a laundry detergent.”

I haven’t seen Fisher this feisty since she was wearing a leather bikini and pulling on the end of Jabba the Hutt’s leash. “My space buns—they’re so much better than Nimony’s ears!” Carrie also pointed out that former vice president Dick Cheney prefers “Star Trek.” Ouch. That one hurts!

While I believe Fisher’s remarks were made with her tongue planted firmly in cheek, I certainly agree with her assessment that “Star Wars” beats “Star Trek” with its lightsabers tied behind its back. No word yet from Shatner's camp but I wouldn’t advise the actor to go head-to-head with a brilliant wit like Fisher. He’d be safer on Princess Leia’s home planet of Alderaan—and we all know what happened to that.

It's Shatner himself who is out of his league. Why not get someone from the “Star Trek” world who is more capable of going up against Carrie Fisher? Anyone for a smackdown between Princess Leia and Lieutenant Uhura?

Where do you stand on this intergalactic Battle Royale? I declare myself a firm member of Team Leia. Take a look at Shatner’s original ravings and Fisher’s response after the break.

star trek is wayyyyyyyyy more complex and interesting than star wars, the classic series ....the movies (some of them , not all of them are good) and next generation are great, voyager not so much , deep space 9 is GREATTTTTTT

many social issues are discussed.....war, peace, freedom of choice, ethics etc

star wars is cool but it has pretty much one or two themes, star trek has many many more

both have done very well

both will do semi-well going forward

not sure that their old, fat, glitter-eyed stars talking to youtube type interviewers is gonna change ANYONE'S CAMP

we've pretty much made up our minds or don't care......

so why debate over it?

I watched Star Trek when it was on TV, so I liked the Series. When it came to the Big Screen.... I Didn't like it. Didn't like it to where I've only seen the 1st one and Never saw another one.

Star Wars was Great ! Almost from beginning to End. I say almost because I didn't LOVE Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Also, I Think that These two were Totally Different type of Shows/ Movies

the first star trek movie is decidedly boring, second one is great, third one is great, fourth one is great, fifth one sucks, 6th one is one of my favorites, not all of them are of the same quality

BAS, give it a try but skip #5 and 'nemesis' any of the other movies is decent , 2,3,4 and 6 are the best in my opinion

star wars was ok....until episode I , their 'explanation' of the midiclorians......and of course jar jar binks

the last movie with the original cast is 6, the theme of that movie is identical to the end of the cold war USA/USSR (came out when that was going on)

out of the movies with the new cast, I only really care about "First Contact"

watch those two :) , star trek VI and star trek first contact

I'm a big fan of science fiction and space travel, alien type stuff in general.

I never could get into Star wars at all, but enjoy most everything Star Trek related.

I don't think you would have Star wars if Gene Roddenberry never created Star Trek.

Princess Leia turned into Jabba the Hut.

Actually she was just in the news last week for all of the weight she has lost.

The various incarnations of Star Trek of course far exceed SW with the range of provocative and entertaining storylines. And not surprising since those ST-affiliated programs likely encompass 1000+ hours of writing and production.

Meanwhile, the SW franchise has produced what - six or seven movies totalling maybe 20 hours in content?

Big fan of both but If I had to say goodbye to one forever it would have to be star wars. If you have not seen the recent re-tooling of the franchise with the movie that was released 2 years ago you really should 'cause it was great! It has the original characters with different actors but because there is a timeline anamoly all the characters are 15 years younger than they should be. Btw... the seventh Star trek movie ( generations ) has some of the original series characters as they pass the torch off to the next generation crew.
