Hollywood churns out a lot of mediocre movies.

Looking over the Academy Awards winners and nominees over the last
decade, there (IMHO) have been very few truly great movies made
in the last 10 years.

2010: Winner for best picture "King's Speech" - great? no, very good, maybe.

2009: Winner best pic: "The Hurt Locker" - great? nope. very good, maybe

2008: Slumdog Millionaire: Not great, maybe very good

2007: No Country for Old Men: Not great, maybe very good

2006: The Departed: Not great, maybe very good

2005: Crash: Not great, maybe very good

2004: Million Dollar Baby: Not great, maybe very good

2003: Lord of the Rings, Return of the Ring: Some would say great - not my cup of tea

2002: Chicago: Not great, very good

2001: A Beautiful Mind: Not great, maybe very good

2000: Gladiator: I really liked it, would I call it great... nah - but very good

1999: American Beauty: Not great... very good

1998: Shakespeare in Love: Not great

And so on...

The last movie I see on that list I think was truly great was
"Saving Private Ryan" which was a nominee in 1998. So, for me
13 years of a lot of mediocre films, some good, and a few great.

In the middle 90's I see a bunch of very good to great movies:
1992: Unforgiven - very good
1992: A few Good Men - almost Great
1993: Schilndler's List - Great
1994: Forrest Gump - Very good
1994: Shawshank Redemption - Great
1995: Braveheart - almost Great
1996: Fargo - Very Good
1997: Titanic - Very Good
1997: Good Will Hunting - Very Good

For my taste, there are only three truly great movies in the last 20 years:
Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption, Saving Private Ryan

The Oscars only look for certain characteristics. I don't agree with most of their winners. Hollywood politics com into play. People get shunned if they are disliked and there is a lot of campaigning that goes on behind the scenes.

Yeah, but even look at the nominees, still few truly great movies in the last 20 years.

Hollywood never comes up with anything original anymore.. Everything is a Remake or some spin off of a comic book.. But they know the public is a bunch of morons that makes reality shows and the people on there stars, so they will fork over 10 bucks for a piece of garbage.. How in the hell could they actually let Adam Sandler make that Piece of shit movie he just came out with.

How? Cause idiots go see it and that's what it's all about.

If someone tells me they enjoy Adam Sandler I know they are fucking idiots. This co-worker told me Grown Ups was a good movie. He is a fucking idiot and every movie he recommends is the typical Hollywood crap that's made for the retarded masses.

If you actually went and saw the new Adam Sandler movie I cant think of you the same way. Nothing about it looked funny, not sure why actors think playing a women is somehow comedic gold that no one else has discovered. But if movies like Slumdog, Goodwill Hunting, The Departed aren't great, Im not sure what i should be looking for

Thats exactly right.. Hollywood knows people are fucking morons and will spend the money on pieces of shit like the current Sandler movie. Instead of staying home and reading a book (educating one's self) they spend money on garbage Movies,Mcdonalds,Materialistic shit. Watch the first 10 minutes of Idiocracy and that says it all..
