A couple of weeks ago I posted an article about Dr J selling his championship rings along with other items. His 1974 ABA Championship went for a record $460,471, the highest price ever for a sports ring. His 1983 NBA Championship ring went for $244,240. 1983 All-Star MVP trophy $115,242. His 1978 All-Star ring $238,853. His 1968 class ring from Roosevelt, NY high school $35,801. He can come up with all the stories he wants about why he sold this stuff but when someone says it's not about the money it usually is. He can say the rings have no meaning to him now and he wanted his fans to end up with them. Instead of donating them to NBA HOF in Springfield, Mass they will be viewed by a couple of rich guys, smoking cigars and drinking brandy.

I hope the sale helps him out. At this point in his life, he can use the money more than the material items. More power to him.

It is a real shame that the guys that played professional sports in his time, got paid dirt compared to the stars of today.... Does anyone know what Dr J made a year? I don't know, but I bet it was less than 10% what the bums make these days...........

I have a lot of respect for someone who gambles their money away, not for someone who spends it all on drugs.
