Nearly two months after parting with Terry Francona, the Red Sox finally have settled on a manager.

Bobby Valentine is the team’s choice, according to several reports.

Valentine, the clear favorite of ownership, beat out the other finalist, Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont.

The Red Sox also considered a host of other candidates, but none had the experience of Valentine, who previously managed the Rangers, Mets and Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan.

The AL East will now feature a number of high-powered managers. Valentine joins the Yankees’ Joe Girardi, Rays’ Joe Maddon, Orioles’ Buck Showalter and Blue Jays’ John Farrell in the division.

I think Valentine is a great fit for Boston.

I'm looking forward to the season, should be an interesting one. Definitely going to be some good post game conferences.

i personally dont have a problem with valentine, however, i have a huge problem with a team hiring a new g.m. and then basically telling him he cant choose the manager. luchino is a fucking chooch and i wouldnt doubt if they are looking for a new g.m. before the end of the next season...this could get ugly

Im seriously thinking the ESPN mothership gets these guys jobs. Every fired coach who joined espn gets a great job pretty fast after doing nothing and being horrible on tv how does this keep happening.
