So, first, I did try Google and I browsed some computer forums but I think I became more confused than I started.

I've spent the better part of 3 hours on the phone with HP who have been no god damn help.

So here's a quick run-down and if anyone can help or point me in the right direction, it'd be greatly appreciated!

I have an HP G61 laptop, running Windows 7 64-bit. The other day, I was hit with the Win 7 Security Trojan and thought my whole computer was fucked. I called HP and ordered system recovery disks because their installed/no-disk-necessary-what-a-load-of-shit system recovery wasn't working. I mean it was BAD. I couldn't load any programs, the internet, nothing.

I somehow, after hours of trying, was able to system restore to a previous date and run AVG and it appears all the virus issues are gone. I'm able to boot up Windows no problem and run my computer like I could a few months back.

Well, I have these fucking disks now and I'm still a little spooked so I want to restore back to factory settings ANYWAY. I pop in the disk, restart my computer (like it tells me to) and hit F11 to enter system recovery and I get two messages:

First -- BOOTMGR Missing

Second -- Status: 0xc000000f / Info: Boot Selection failed because required device is inaccessible.

So it seems that my normal Windows 7 boot is fine, but my DVD/CD drive boot is fucked? I've tried googling how to fix a boot manager or restore a boot manager but I don't have any fucking idea what the results tell me to do.

So, cliff notes version for those that don't want to read it because it's too long, The boot manager won't read my start-up/system recovery disk even though my laptop still works, I want to start it fresh anyway because I bought the fucking disks:ohno:

Thanks in advance! <><>

I dont think you need to hit F11 to go into system recovery, what happens if you simply let it boot from the cd/dvd , it should take you right into a full recovery mode

Solution:

As this issue is related to system recovery and happens even on brand new Notebooks I suspected the issue could be with HP Recovery partition. I decided to check the driver section to find any kind of fixes available as download. Voila

, when I checked driver download section, I found that there is a tool called “Fix for HP Multi-Partition Recovery Manager” which says it fixes an issue where the winre.wim file was not placed on the recovery partition, and subsequently made F11 not available. Winre.wim file is a very important file and needed for System recovery to work.

If any one of you is experiencing the above said issue, please download “Fix for HP Multi-Partition Recovery Manager” from the below said link (File name: sp48415.exe (282 MB)). Click here to download. This is a Windows 7 based file and this issue is reported with HP Notebooks which is pre-installed with Windows

If you see it, start up your computer normally without the cd. Download/run ComboFix. Then try it again. If that doesn't work the virus probably corrupted a file and you'll need to rebuild the startup files which isn't too tough. I'm no professional but haven't had a computer I didn't fix (sometimes I fuck up a few times first though). That's my advice.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't think that is the issue. The error seems to indicate that his CD/DVD Drive isn't reading/booting correctly. Your fix sounds like something to do if the F11 button isn't working. Like I said I'm no expert though.

I'm far from an expert. That link looks like it provides the solution to his issue. It seems to be a fairly common problem with HP.

You deserve whatever fuck up your computer has now. Sorry but it's the truth. All you need to remove this viruses are to go on Google and look up a solution. I've gotten these viruses a lot and always get rid of them ASAP. Doing a restore won't fix it.

All you needed to do was run the computer in safe mode and run RKILL which you can download from bleepingcomputers and then run malwarebytes to get rid of the trojan.

I can't boot from the system recovery disk...without hitting F11 it brings up an option to run Windows normally or to run the System Recovery. I do the System Recovery option and I get:

Status - 0xc000000f

Info - Boot selection failed because a required device is innaccessible.

Also, the trojan wouldn't allow me to load up the internet to get on google.

But great contribution.

The discs they sent you might be Damaged? Although I like Objection's answer the most, seems to reference the actual message.

Of course, that's why you have to go into safemode with networking and then get on the internet. I'm not being a dick but people here are always getting these trojans or whatever and then screwing up their computers.

Put that site on your bookmarks.

Actually it's probably also smart (or smarter) to email the above link to yourself at a yahoo, gmail or other online email account

That way you can easily access it via another computer (or smartphone) and follow the instructions to repair your infected system which might have trouble accessing "bookmarks".
