I spent $130 on dinner last night at a great french restaurant .... that's with no wine, etc.

Very good if ever near New Haven, ct, $52.50 per person for 4 courses.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/le-petit-cafe-branford.

but I'm staying in cheap motel suites where iron burns are not uncommon in the carpeting....:think2:.

I want to leave ( therefore, I sold my condo), now wife wants to stick around "awhile".

Is there such a thing as a 24 hour divorce ? :ohno:

This place I'm staying at cracks me up, it's a suite , but they cheat and use one HVAC unit mounted up high and use a coat closet as a plenum/ mixing box.

( I installed HVAC for 10+ years), then there are 4 thermostats in the place, three of them are dummy stats ,,, that do nothing , LOL ! they look good for common idiots that think they actually control heat/ AC in places like a bathroom with no registers or vents. That will fool like 99% of people.

Well I get it for $50 a night with taxes and free internet, corporate rate is $79, doable for awhile

I think you'd be OK there Mike !

http://www.lepetitcafe.net/lpc/This_Weeks_Menu.html

My first time at a French place and the chef is from Hong Kong, so it has an Asian influence.

Get something like Scallops/ Shrimp/ Duckleg as an appetizer

course #2 is a salad

enough options for an entree like swordfish, steak, pork, lamb, etc

then dessert.

with no extras it is $105 for two or $130 after tax and tip....not cheap, but very good !

You won't have to eat snails unless you order them.

I'd suggest this place if you ever plan to be near there ( Branford, Ct), make reservations a day before ( closed Mon, Tues).

bottom line is $130 for two with no wine, but with an 18% tip.

I think it is easily a top 10 restaurant in the state.

Price doesn't bother me as long as the food is good. I have spent way more than that for 2 people at some places.

We go to one of our favorite Steak Houses on Long Island ( there are Plenty ) and the Avg. cost is about $150-$200 per couple.
Again as long as the Food is Good...

Once went to the Four seasons in the City, spent $300 ( for 2 of us ) and the Food was Crap ! Told the Wife I would Never go back. and we never have.

#%() I literally cannot comprehend $150 for a couple to eat...

Our "nice" restrurants here are $30-$35 a plate..... and thats only half of what you guys are talking... if I did want to spend that much on a dinner, I wouldn't even know where to go... I guess Richmond has a Ruth Chris steakhouse, thats 2 hours away.. but I don't know how I feel about spending that much money on a "chain"...

I guess it's a benefit.. or maybe a downfall of living in a small city.... Our average bill when we go out to eat is $30 with tip.

Ruth Chris is pretty good IMO...at least the one we have in our city is. I haven't liked the ones in other cities as well. It is around $100.00 per person for us to go...including tax and tip - but I am a great tipper. Usually good for an appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 sides, a dessert, and a drink or two. Plenty of places in Vegas where you can drop a $300-$400 a couple and not even touch the alcohol. I had a steak one night that was 30$ an ounce just because I was curious to see how it compared to regular beef (it was a 6 oz...$180 for just the steak for you guys keep track) and it wasn't that fantastic. The filet at Prime was better and it was only about $50 or so. The celebrity chef restaurants are pretty high too...check out Guy Savoy's or Joel Rubochon's place if you want to drop some serious cash on some rare meals.
